How long do you intend to keep your Q6600 until??

I was just wondering how many Q6600 users intend to upgrade in the next year or so. Providing my PC still works fine it looks like at least another 12 months to 18 months for me.

I never made it to a Q6600. I had a conroe Core 2 Duo (E6600?). I recently upgraded to an i7 920 (d0 obviously). The following week the i5 was announced.

I'll probaly keep it until next time i have money to upgrade my pc (hopefully in 2010 once i've finished building my house).

I'll prob build a brand new pc (may keep the Case + PSU) as a treat to go in my new den/home cinema

I've kept previous machines for 4-5 years, so there is at least a good three years left in mine.

Same here, im expecting it to last me as a peformance part (up yours crappy intel star system making my cpu appear like a bottom feader) until the end of 2010 early 2011. I think next year will see a lot of optimisations for multi-core cpu's so the quad-cores will be in their prime then and the stuff that still hasnt evolved above 1/2 core optimisation will get blasted by the mega overclocks we know these beasts can deliver. The only thing that gripes me about having a Kentsfield and not a Yorkfield is i dont have the new extensions - All this is provided i can hold off on Lynnefield and maybe the new 32nm parts as well.

Re: How long do you intend to keep your Q6600 until??

Hoping to keep mine at least another couple of years... I can't think of anything I would be doing on my PC that it couldn't cope with so no need to upgrade. Unless someone buys me an i7/i5, then it would be rude not to upgrade

Re: How long do you intend to keep your Q6600 until??

I believe AMD is coming out with Bulldozer in early 2011 so I am hoping to wait until then. If it is competitive with what Intel has at the time it will help keep prices down. When I built my PC in late 2006 the Core2 was the performance king and prices were not as competitive as they have been in the last year to 18 months.

Re: How long do you intend to keep your Q6600 until??

I'm still on a Conroe e6750 (OC'd to 3.2ghz) and I'm quite happy with it.
I suppose I'll stick with it until I begin to notice performance issues or maybe if I spot a bargain and I happen to have the money.

Re: How long do you intend to keep your Q6600 until??

I dont know, mine has served me well so far so most likely next year. In terms of gaming the Q6600 is perfectly fine, however I've noticed thats its not blindingly fast in encoding (compared to the i7) so I may upgrade sooner.

Re: How long do you intend to keep your Q6600 until??

I intend to wait until at least 2011 or until I actually find software that needs a more powerful CPU.
Any upgrade will at best be 50% faster so pretty much in the same league performance wise and not worth the time, effort and money of replacing my motherboard, RAM and CPU. TBH it's mainly the motherboard I don't want to replace.

Just think of how much better Core 2 was though, but i really dont understand why prices for the Duo's are so dear when compared to the Quads now

Edit: I didn't think many people had the same mind set as me and were seeing 2011 as the upgrade slot - only good news surely

you have no option for "my q6600 has been sat in a draw for 6 months" after i went I7

along with a striker extreme and 4GB DDR2 corsair ram..

i really should sell them to build a media pc for the old man

Re: How long do you intend to keep your Q6600 until??

Not thinking of leaveing my core2duo anytime soon.

Heck I've just managed to get my e6600 up to 3.2ghz, not because I had any issue with it at 3ghz but because I got some new memory and I wanted to see if I could get a little more out of it.
And in all honesty I could probably push this e6600 a bit more, haven't really had the time to put into getting it any higher.
