CPU temps
My 1800MHz Duron runs at 28 degrees C full load...well it's at 29 right now but usually 28, air temp n here must be up a bit.
That's running SETI solidly.
Seems very low when people with 2500+ Bartons are running about 10 degrees higher! Remember the Barton is only running 33 MHz faster!
Okay I know its a Duron. But that big a difference? This is running in a reasonably well cooled case I guess, with one intake and one exhaust fan, a dual fan PSU and a hole in the case above the HSF for the CPU (with a 60-80mm adapter...but only on one of the old TaiSol heatsinks! Copper insert into Al 'sink).
I must say I do like this heatsink, am using it in preference to an SK6+, but even so...
In short, are Durons that much cooler than TBreds/Bartons clock for clock?

Where are you getting the temp reading from?

Make sure it's a diode temp you are reading and not the socket temp. Sockets temps can be anywhere from 5c-15c lower than the diode temp.

Trash, ya I know that...not sure to be honest its a cheapie nForce 2 board, but I thought all boards took die readings these days?
Still 'back in the day' I had a 2400+ on a K7S5A which was definately reading from the socket and that was running at 40 something...HOT processor (or, I had the SK6+ on wrong...don't like that heatsink!).
It's a Winbond monitor prog for the voltages and whatnot too...it's an Inno board IIRC, cheapest nF2 on dabs ;)

Try using motherboard monitor to get the temp. reading. Then you can be sure what sensor you are looking at.
Don't know about heat comparison between Duron and Athlon XP, but wouldn't think the difference would be that big... Check it, would be interesting to know :)

Don't Durons have a much lower stock voltage than a Barton? about 1.5V would give significantly lower temps i would've thought.

I THINK mine is at 1.35V...at work now, so can't check...what do the Bartons run at again?
*edit* it's 1.5V, currently at 1.47...just d/ling MBM now!

mine tends to float around the 32-38 mark

2500+ stock is 1.65V i think.

check with the temps in the hardware monitor in your bios, depending what mobo you are using.

I believe the normal 2500+ would be 1.65... I know atleast the older XPs are at that voltage. Don't think it has changed...

Oh I dunno I'm confused now, MBM is telling me CPU 36 and case 28, but the bios and the winbond prog say the cpu is at 28...weird seeing as they are things that come with the board! But OTOH MBM does ask what mobo when setting it up now, and my board is in the list, so I guess 36-37 is more plausible...

perhaps... I haven't used MBM in some time (linux atm), but if I remember correctly, you can check the settings and see what he calls the sensor he is reading... I think the CPU diode temp, normally has diode in its name.

I habe a XP2500+ and a Duron 1400@1600MHz.
The XP is usualy at 35/40ºC at full load and the duron is at 40/55ºC with a "xity" cooler from my old Duron 1GHz (the XP stock cooler is laying over the Duron box for almos 3 weeks now waiting for a reboot of the sistem :D) the XP is very cool with a Thermaltake Volcano 12 I get full load temps os only 35/40ºC (at 2200rpm constant) and here in portugal it's been air temperatures of above 30ºC almost everiday this year :D
When I upp the rpm on the v12 I even get sub air temp's on the CPU :D
