1080P streaming via SmartPhone

So I'm on the market for a smartphone - currently using old school Nokia candybar type thingy
I'm leaning towards Android based device and wonder if it's possible to hook up some of those new smartphones via HDMI to a screen and stream 1080P content off your home PC through the wi-fi network. What are the models supporting this and what the caveats may be ?

HD 1080p needs wires to stream properly, wireless is still not up to it, unless things have changed recently.

What about 720P ? Are we there yet ?

I think the LG 2X can stream 1080p from the phone, not sure whether it can play stuff from a network location. However, a few early adopters have been complaining of issues with the phone.
