It looks like a nice notebook but the IGP is not that great.

    Just to mention:

Check battery life on the laptops you are deciding.

I love having good battery life when I am on the road and just browsing internet and using skype. I don't worry about graphics card as I think all modern intergrated stuff handles this stuff (eg. 720p) pretty good now.

Best thing is I can move my laptop around my hotel room and the hotel itself

Of course, not sure what you think of that though vs other features but just letting you know my experience

EDIT - great for airport usage too with good battery life when you are sitting there just waiting and waiting and get bored of reading docs/books

Yeah I'm aware of the poor IGP but it looks like unless I go to the higher end of my budget I won't be playing many games anyway, for £370 it looks good to me (?)

I'm trying to find something similar spec with no touch screen to see what premium I'm paying for that...

I've never been too bothered about battery life, 3hrs would be more than enough for me off the mainsbut it's obviously nice to have more!

Unless you get a Zacate based netbook!

BTW,the HP DM1Z has a 7200RPM drive as standard so it will probably have an advantage in everyday use over even most cheaper CULV notebooks which tend to a slower system drive.

Anyway here are some cheaper CULV notebooks:

Re: Looking for a decent portable laptop, suggestions?

I like the Asus, but after discount/cashback I'm only paying about £50 extra for a multitouch screen which seems pretty good (small spec differences aside)

Oh I just don't know, I could sod it & buy a netbook for £150 which would be enough for browsing/Skype. The HP DM1Z isn't available to buy yet, would be about £322 after cahback, again only a touch (!) more for a touchscreen.

I got the Acer today, lovely little thing, just setting everything up.
Keyboard is ok, slightly springy but I like the keys. Touchpad is a bit sensitive sometimes.
It's quite nippy, pinch to zoom is useful if not really that important, I think I'll keep it
