Winpower PSU's - are they good?

Are any of these PSU's good (or at least OK)?

Considering the really cheap price i would reccommend an antec or enermax. cheap ones have bad results. take Qtec for instance :) sorry i cant be of more help

I wouldn't call these cheap though :eek: - I'd call £5-£20 cheap (ebuyer, qtec etc), these I think are about the right price - I really don't want to spend more than £40 on a PSU inc P&P. I've found that the antec/enermax ones are always above this price range :mad: .

Could you find me a "good" PSU that is within my price range?

My q-tec 400w runs perfectly and so does my brothers 500w . Rails are very stable :)

OK - unless anyone has REALLY good idea not to, I'm going to buy one of the winpower ones tomorrow afternoon/evening.

So..... Anyone had a bad experience with one? (or even a good experience!)

Dude, winpower are cheap and XCase are expensive :)

The 550 watter goes for about £20ish, but its easier to get away with a bit of overpricing since they look the thing.

As for the Q-tech, arent there 2 manufacturer that sound alike - Q-technology and one Q-tec. One make PSU that are decent and have papst fans (sold by quietpc, but still overpriced), and some are sold by ebuyer that are loud and have the potential to go bang in a year. Some are good enough to keep you going, but my friend bought a 550watt Q-tech from ebuyer and after about 6 months the rails were fluctuating quiet badly. Fine he got an RMA but didnt risk it the second time and quickly sold on his second unit which he replaced with a TT 480W i believe.

For the amount you have said the CWT from scan are pretty good - im sure others will also agree on that, but remember that the PSU is as important as anything else: if the PSU blows, it can take anything (and possibly everything) with it.

These are the voltages supplied by ure PSU: +5, +12, -5 etc. Each different PSU has a different ampage per rail. Some have a good 12v rail, but skimp on the 5v to make figures look better. The better and more expensive ones have good ampage on the 5v (30a is a good figure i believe) like the enermax. If you have good rails then when ure comp is under load, the rails will be similar to as they were when not under load - they will be close to the actual stated voltage and will not flucuate badly.

Just checked scans site and they are doing an enermax 350w active pfc for about £35. The CWT (are these the scan ones?) 350w and 450w are about £25 and £35 (IIRC). Theres also a Hiper 420w which is about £35 aswell.

They're all quiet nice, but for an nforce based system id recommend the enermax or 450 cwt.

The 2 winpower 550w units go for about £25 - less than half the price of the antec 380w in the same store.

I have a 400w winpower and it works i suppose, but it is cheap and crap i payed 17 quid and although the box says winpower, the psu is made by Joue Jye or some chinese crap.

So does that mean it's good then as it works and all?

If it didnt work they wouldnt sell it :) But yeh mine does the job i just hope it doesnt blow up or something, its not all that quiet but good enough.

hmmmmmm well i really need a new PSU, as my current one is failing on me [keeps turning off the PC randomly] and i'm sure i am overloading it anyhow

looks like i will end up gettin one of those winpower ones since Planetmicro are 5mins from me and i cant live with my pc fkin up every 2 mins

The cwt's have been renamed to the

3XS Meridian 550W + SATA Quiet Dual Fan AMD/P4 App Active Fan Control Active PFC

dunno why they renamed them but there the same psu :)
