    Mainboard Advice.

I need to replace my existing mainboard, a 4CoreDual-VSTA affair from ASRock.

What I want is a board that can do the following.

Overclock my E4400 better than the ASROck,
Has 4 DDR2 RAM Slots to a total of 8Gb.
Will support a Quad core processor.

Most of the boards I see are only 2 ram slots for a total of 4Gb, I want to continue using my existing ram.

Oh, my budget is as little as possible. lol.

    Re: Mainboard Advice.

TBH,it is not worth investing much money in your current setup. You are looking at around £50 to £70 for a socket 775 motherboard which is reasonable for overclocking and has 4 RAM slots unless you get a secondhand motherboard.

On top of this DDR2 is expensive and unless your signature is wrong you have 2GB ATM. Even if you have 4GB it still not worth getting a motherboard. 4GB of DDR3 can be had for under £35 if you shop around.

I would sell what you have and move over to a newer socket.

You can get an X3 450,a 770 based motherboard and 4GB of DDR3 for around £140 to £150. A Core i3 2100 based setup can be had for around £190.

    Re: Mainboard Advice.

    Cheers for the advice.

I was looking at other options too. Just wanted someone with a good head on thier shoulders to tell me I wasn't making a mistake getting rid of the current mainboard/RAM/Proc. lol.

Guess its save up time then.

    Re: Mainboard Advice.

If your motherboard supported a quad core and you had 4GB of DDR2 a secondhand quad core would have done the job for a while longer.

Anyway,AMD Bulldozer is being launched in a few months time and the AM3+ motherboards look like they will be released soon too.

TBH,your setup should still be fine for the time-being.
