    Which thermistor do i get?

I need to get some temp probs to use with my aerogate2.

Finding some ends are easy enough (can just use motherboard pin headers from an old comp), but am in a bit of a fix with the thermistor. I was looking to get the standard flat ones but they come in 2 resistances:

    1) Res: 10kΩ±1% ........ B Value:3435°K ....... Range:-50 to 90°C
    2) Res: 100kΩ±1% ...... B Value:4390°K ....... Range:-50 to 125°C

Anyone have a better clue than me as to which i should get?

    um, duh?

Do you expect your cpu to reach a temperature above 90c?

    I don't think so

    so...

Isn't it obvious what transistor you need?

I made the same ituitive geuss before, but if you look, theres only a 35deg difference in the range of the probes, which is quiet small relative to the 10 fold increase in resistance, so was unsure as which to get as it could have really been either.

BTW, they are thermistors, not transistors .

Temperature range is the least of your problems. Firstly you NEED the same resistance value as the ones that come with it, if you dont the temps will be atelast several degrees off, or possibly just show error on it. You can get this using a multimeter and look at the resistance of the ones you already have, It varies with temperature, IIRC the temp is measured at 25c or it might be 15c, cant remember.

Thermistors are not linear either, thats where B value comes in, if the B value is different, your result will be inaccurate.

Lastly you need negative thermal coeffiecnt ones, that is the resistance goes down as the temp goes up, if you get PTC ones your temp readings will be backwards..

there are loads of different thermistors and chances are that those wont be right, contanct coolermaster and ask for some more or where to get them..

Should have sadi that I didnt get them with the Aerogate. I got the unit brand new, but realy cheap because the gut had used the connectors on the thermistors for LED's! He no longer had the original when he sold they to me.

As for the other stuff you mentioned, these thermistors have -ve thermal co-eff's (they have others listed as PTC, so i geuss if they havent said so, they will be the normal ones).

there are loads of different thermistors and chances are that those wont be right, contanct coolermaster and ask for some more or where to get them..
Probs the best thing do do at the mo, so will drop them a mail in a mo - thanks mate...
