NAS Advice / Recommendations please

Hi,

I'm looking to purchase a NAS, and wanted some recommendations please.

Ideally want

2 bays, may consider more
RAID support to at minimum mirror the drives
USB Printer Server support
DLNA
FTP, etc
Drive Sharing
Ability to stream content to my PS3 & Bravia TV's

Initally looked at the Thecus N2200 and the Qnap range.

My alternative is to build my own and run something like FreeNAS.

I run a Netgear Readynas NV+ 4 Bay unit. The only bit I'm not sure about is the Print Server support , but only because I've not tried it personally.

HP Microserver + FreeNAS - tbh I think you'd struggle to get anything which matches that bang-for-buck.

Synology DS211/j/plus - does all of the above.

Depending on the age of the Bravia TV, you'll find the DLNA features limited at best. Better to stick with the PS3 for streaming.

most definately the hp microserver is the best bang for the buck right now , currently with £100 cashback from hp so it'll cost you about £125

I have a readynas duo does what your after, never had any problems with it mainly use it for streaming to my ps3, print server and just a general file server.

+1 for FreeNAS if you've got the bits for a server around.

I've got a QNAP TS-219P and it does all needs and has great support.

Really tempted with the HP Microserver and 2 1TB Samsung F3 drives setup as RAID 1. Although not sure if Windows Home Server 2011 will work on it.

Any thoughts on the Thecus N2200 ?
