    Noisy Hitachi Deskstar 1TB HDD

Can someone please run me through my options for reducing noise from this drive?
As far as I can tell its totally healthy, just quite noisy and producing a fair bit of vibration.
I have plenty of spare 3.5" bays if thats relevant.
I heard you can suspend the drive using elastic/similar?
Im not looking to break the bank on this one, just hoping to find a way to quiet it down a bit.
Thanks in advance for any help

Re: Noisy Hitachi Deskstar 1TB HDD

Well I have tried a method similar to that shown in this rather awful video :S

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sym2p5bB19E

And makes a huge difference! before I could feel the vibrations through the floor and hear it downstars now id say its 50% quieter.

So i'd recommend suspending the HDD from elastic if you've got a noisy model.

Re: Noisy Hitachi Deskstar 1TB HDD

If the drive is noisier than other drives (if you have any to compare it with) I'd keep a close eye on it. I've had a number of Hitachi drives and none have been particularly noisy or prone to vibrations, so it may well be a sign of something....

Other than that I'm glad you found a good solution.

Re: Noisy Hitachi Deskstar 1TB HDD

It does make me nervous tbh, I had it alongside a samsung f3 and it was noticeably louder. Reading reviews of the drive on ebuyer it seems to be pot luck if you get a quiet or noisy one. Fingers crossed and hoping for the best.
