    Preparing my future upgrade.

Hi guys, I'll get this out here, I'm looking to upgrade by the END OF THE YEAR - But I may find myself doing it earlier - also, I always spend about 2 months verifying my build and updating it according to peoples opinions. My budget this time around will be around £1000. I can give or take a couple of hundred pounds depending on what I save but I want my rig to be able to edit videos and play games like a boss. My current rig is certainly awesome, but its getting a little outdated.

Here is my wish-list so to speak.

    4x Seagate 500GB Sata 3 (6Gb/s) in Raid 0
    4x Corsair 4GB DDR3 1600
    Sapphire AMD 6950
    Asus Sabertooth P67 Mobo
    Intel Core i5 2500K
    Thermaltake Element S Case
24" ASUS/Dell/Samsung Monitor (One of those lovely crisp ones)
    LG Bluray Writer
BlackMagic Intensity Pro 1080p Capturecard (with a 1TB Drive attached)
    700W Modular PSU

I know that this is actually about £1400 worth of computer without such things as cooling, custom wires etc but I am able to sell my Computer as listed below, a 22" Montior and a HD-PVR which are all in good condition so I'll be able to offset the build by a fair whack hopefully.

Not talking too much on the prices atm, but does anyone have any feedback on these bits and bobs and if any of them are going to be out-dated this year or possibly have a bad reputation?

I would wait until June or July to see how AMD Bulldozer performs.

Well from personal experience planning and buying small bits and bobs for a build a long time before you actually build it never works out how you want it, your just planning so its ok i guess. It looks like a great build but with bulldozer coming I wouldnt be too sure on the i5, if bulldozer is a flop then yeah its a great build. ALSO I would cut from somewhere and buy a ssd by the time you build it i reckon ssd's will come down in price.

    Re: Preparing my future upgrade.

You could buy the monitor and the case now as there are not huge changes in them over a small time period.

The Dell U2311H is on offer on dell small business for about £200 shipped at the moment which could be worth a look.

For the case im a sucker for the Fractal Define R3 or the XL but cases are personal choice really.

    Re: Preparing my future upgrade.

What socket will Bulldozer run on, and what will it excel at? Video Rendering? and also what sort of price bracket / performance we looking at? You think I could get 6x 4.5Ghz hyperthreaded cores for under 200 quid on an AM3+ board maybe?

Ideally that would be a best-case scenario, which would mean I could then buy a cheap Sata Raid AM3+ board and borrow a processor from work and start building it early if I came into money. I want to know all my options and expectations here.

Also, as attractive as SSD is, I can't see it beating 4x cheap Raid-0 Sata3 drives in speed divided by price.

P:S - I don't believe the fake AMD 'performance leak' where it says 1.5x faster! and gets the intel equivalent socket wrong.

There is every chance this build could crumble to a £700 budget or something where an £80 board, £30 case and only dual Raid-0 drives come into play. Its all about the cost divided by performance and a significant increase in power from my current system.

I would want a 4GHz overclocks Quad Core New-Gen Processor and Raid 0, 8GB of RAM Minimum and a 6850 minimum! However, if I can get something thats just 10% slower for 50% cheaper I'd likely be sold. SO suggest builds away guys, because I'm not flush at all and I want speed and value in a good balance here. Its your expertise I need ;D

I'm a sucker for the the old Coolermaster Cosmos chassis that came with soundproofing, but after having my Antec 300 for 3 years now, I can't get over how brilliant it is for airflow and dust filter for the price I paid (20 quid). Only bad is the lack of 3.5" bay at the front. So for me its either those sexy little coolermaster/corsair jobbies, or a clean-simple but well airflow designed cases for me probably.
