Unusually high temps on new i5 2400?

Hi all. Just put my new rig together on friday, haven't had a chance to have a proper play with it yet though. Specs are as follows:

    i5 2400 (stock cooler)
    MSI H67MA-E45
    4GB Corsair Value select 1333
    XFX 6950 2GB (haven't unlocked it yet)
    CM Pro Gold 600W
    CM Elite 370
    Corsair F60 SSD
    Samsung/Hitachi HDDs

I'm getting crazy idle temps on the CPU ranging from anywhere from 50-90 degrees. Cross checked Speedfan with Speccy.

I hate these dame flimsy CPU coolers, I imagine that is the problem?

    Any thoughts?

Take off the cooler and check the thermal paste's layer thickness. Should give an indication on how good the contact is.

Only remove the cooler if you plan on completely removing and reapplying the TIM - air bubbles added to the existing stuff won't help any. Just check all the pushpins are in properly and check the CPU power saving options are enabled in BIOS to start with.

Cheers, will try this. I think it may well be 1 of the pushpins, they're bloody useless. Not tried it yet but its now showing at 46C which I think is fairly normal...

Still shouldn't be as high as 90 so will have to investigate

Make sure no wires are stopping the fan from spinning and as others have said probably doing a full reseating would be your best bet.
