How to wire up and power 2 fans?
Hi guys,
Me and a friend are making a DIY LED lighting unit for our Marine aquariums. We are putting them in our exisiting hoods which also have 2 fans. Due to the fact that the entire internals are being ripped out. How could we add 2 80mm PC fans to our unit and power them?
Im a noob so a guide would be great. Im hoping it would be an easy task?
Thanks
Mark

If you can find one of these (http://www.maplin.co.uk/multi-fan-po...ol-board-98849) you just need to feed it a 12v output via a molex clip.
Otherwise, something like this (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_1994.html) may also help in getting the right fans. Again though, 12v in is the maximum for the fans, and 7v if you want to run them quieter

Thanks Lucio, im trying to see if I can attach them to the power supply I am using for the LEDs. It may be as easy as just conntecting them ins eries with the lights but i need to double check . . .

Well, what's the voltage and ampage of the power supply then!
Share the information we need to answer :D

Ok, not been harsh, well I am been characteristically harsh, ignore the links from lucio, they are cables glorified cables and a waste of dosh.
Firstly I see you've got two controllers hooked up to a voltage supply, these then run two chains of the LEDs? If you upload details of the controllers I can check the assumption (those been the mother of all melting/fuseblowing f-up fairy visits!) that you've got a simple regulated 24V 2.5A source, which has a spare capacity for just wiring up two 12v fans in series.
If you wire two 12v fans in series they will merrily run from a 24v voltage source. But we just want to check the load on the voltage source before we start doing that to stop some smoking.

No problems mate thanks for the help the two controllers are
1 x 1000mA buckpuck with potentiometer.
1 x 700mA buckpuck with potentiometer.
Yes they run two chains of LED's. The 1000mA is for the white LED's and the 700 is for the blue LED's.
Is this any good? My friend done all the soldering and I was just learning as he went along. (I have to learn somewhere right?)
