    2.4C or 2.8E - Is it worth it?

    Hi all,

    I currently have a 2.4C @ 260 fsb, is it worth me upgrading to a 2.8E and will I be guaranteed to get 250+fsb (as I have DDR500).
    Any opinions welcome.
    Oh reason for upgrade, my bro has offered me £100 for my 2.4C and a 2.8E is only £130........

    Umm, why are you double posting.

    You will probably get a little higher CPU speed than with your 2.4C as it seems average or below avg. But IF I was going to upgrade, I would get a 2.8C not a 2.8E. The E will be much harder to contol the heat. I have almost the same set up as you. HSF, mobo, CPU, shockingly similar. Though I run mine at 3.45Ghz now just b/c it runs cooler and everything is just as fast. Anyway, point is... dont get a prescott, GET A NORTHWOOD.

    firstly unless you have a damn good cooling setup id avoid the 2.8e and just go with the 2.8c as they appear to be about equal on the overclocking front ,plus you will get better performance from the 2.8C as for hitting 250fsb nothing is guaranteed in overclocking m8

    to be honest you'd better hurry because next week is computex and once this show is over all the newer socketed motherboards such as socket 949, 775 et al will be released.

    For example all the motherboards are starting to appear in places like the one below ;

    http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/...es=1&model=191

    Hope this info helps.

    Best Regards,

    That says Intel 865PE chipset, but its got the new LGA775 pin(less) "socket", I didnt know the 865 supported the new chips. That seems like the way to to go.... better power support from 775 pins, but still AGP as its not going anywhere for another year or so easily.
