    Price check: HP XW6600 workstation

I have an HP XW6600 workstation that's new and pretty much not been used. Won it in a competition with HP some time ago, and don't really want to give it away, but have no idea what it's worth. There are some similar machines which sold on ebay, but only in the US so not sure how representative it is.

    Spec is:
    XW6600 (Intel 5400B chipset with 6321ESB southbridge)
1x Xeon E5430 2.66GHz QC CPU (mobo takes two)
    2x 1GB = 2GB DDR2 RAM
    250GB Seagate Barracuda HDD
    DVD-RW with lightscribe
    Southbridge gives you:
6x SATA AHCI / RAID ports
    Onboard sound
    Gig-E
    7x USB ports, etc.
3x FireWire ports by means of a PCI card (2 on backplate, one on front fascia)

Comes with Vista Business 32bit. It's the OEM install from HP (MS product sticker on the panel) preloaded.

Being a professional workstation, case is really tidy, quiet, has LOTS of fans, 650W PSU, etc.

I can post photos if required.

    Thanks
    Xav

Re: Price check: HP XW6600 workstation

    Forgot to say:
Competition was with AMD/ATI so came with a boxed ATI FireGL 7700 GPU with DVI and DP.
I just put the card in my main PC to check it's working and it's fine.

I could include it in the PC.

Or PC could be broken up if that was of interest. I did notice Xeon CPUs go for stupid prices on the bay...

    A few photos

Graphics card here is a 8800GT I put in whilst testing the 7700 FireGL

    Vista CoA:

CDs including Vista Business and Recovery disc:

There's also the HP PS2 keyboard, bag of various bits and pieces.

When I first got the box, I was salivating: the spec was awesome including two top end Xeons, lots of RAM, dual nVidia cards in SLI. Unfortunately, the PC inside was somewhat different and wondered if someone had pulled a fast one. But as it was a competition prize, I couldn't really complain. It's a great PC, just I haven't used it at all since getting it

What you have in mind price wise? Any ball park figures?

I know I should be the one suggesting but wanted to hear from you first...

Re: Price check: HP XW6600 workstation

Hmm, well, looking at individual component price, might be worth splitting this up and selling the bits!

    - Xeon E5430 CPUs seem to sell around the £400 mark! I guess 12MB L2 cache is pricey!
    - 2x1GB DDR2 ECC RAM is around £80
    - V7700 FireGL GPU sells on Scan for over £150
    - motherboard has nice features, supports up to 32GB RAM and RAID 0, 1 and 5

I've bitten my lip on what I thought it was worth!

Re: Price check: HP XW6600 workstation

Someone is selling 2 of those CPUs for £500 (the pair) on eBay, the higher auctions don't seem to be selling (granted though it's a very niche product!)

Re: Price check: HP XW6600 workstation

    Yeah, Rob, niche it is.

The thing is although I haven't used this PC much, I'm still dreaming of having my own photo studio and would keep this PC and add another 2-4GB RAM and have it as my photoshop workhorse. I was thinking of moving it on whilst it still had some value as I'm not using it and if/when I need another photo editing PC, I'd build another one although it wouldn't be as sexy!
