    Sound through SPDIF

    Heya, been a while!

I recently got into the possession of a lovely HD TV, a Sony 40"
Now I've connected my desktop to the TV through DVI-HDMI, works like a charm and extremely easy to work with.
Of course, the sound still comes from the computer speakers.

I'd like to receive the sound from my TV speakers (as it has it's own sound system connected to it), as it's nicer to have the sound coming towards you rather from the side/behind you when watching movies etc.

Anyhow, afaik you can connect the motherboard (sound) to your nvidia graphics card so the sound can go through the HDMI as well. This is done with an SPDIF connnector right?

My graphic card is the Asus Nvidia Geforce GTX 260 (the original version) and my motherboard is the Asus P5Q Pro.

Now, I had actually never heard of this SPDIF thing before until I started looking into it when I got my TV and figured there was no sound going through the original cable. Now I'm pretty sure both my card and motherboard have SPDIF ports, but heres my question:

I'm not sure what kind of cable I'm supposed to get (it didn't come with the card package), its quite hard to find them where I live (Netherlands), I've found one I think, but I'm not sure if it's the correct one.

Here it is (page in Dutch) https://www.alternate.nl/html/produc...ntern/416187/?

    Is this the correct one?

    Re: Sound through SPDIF

Basically any thing wire will do the trick assuming you'd know the polarities of connectors on both VGA and mboard. But the one from Alternate should do just fine assuming your graphic card has a 2-pin white connector for SPDIF. The black connectors off the cable are plugged into the mainboard

I think either the cable and/or the bundled manual should contain info on which of the two black plugs is ground and input signal.
