hey guys,
So I finally ordered all the parts for my mini itx gaming build. Came yesterday.
Gigabyte H67N-USB3-B3
i5 2500k
4GB Crucial DDR3 1333mhz
EVGA 460 SC EE

Today I put it all together, switched it on and... nothing.
The psu and fans spin up for a second, the motherboard leds all light up for a second, the motherboard makes a long (or possibly short I can't decide, maybe half a second) beeping sound and then everything goes off. Then a couple seconds later it does it again and again etc...

The motherboard manual is useless, it has two lines about it which basically say a continuous long beep means gpu not inserted properly and a continous short beep means power error.

I've checked the gpu was seated properly and properly powered to no avail. At this point I have removed the gpu, removed every other onboard connector except the two power connectors (24 pin & 4 pin) and have tried another psu which I know works. Still the same issue. I'm guessing that the motherboard is faulty but I wanted to know if there was anything else I could try before I send it back to scan. (I don't have any way of testing the CPU or RAM unforetunately).

So any suggestions/ideas or should I send it back?

I have you tried clearing the CMOS??

Unless you can get adequate parts to eliminate all other possibilities, I'd suggest either :-

1) RMA the mobo and get it checked, and if it's faulty, replaced or

2) Use the DSR cancellation to just return it and get something else, and/or from somewhere else.




Just be aware of letting the very strong 7 working day DSR protection expire while you try other options.

Not to sound stupid but I have no idea how to clear the CMOS on this board. The manual doesnt say how. Or would removed the battery and then reseating it work?

Try holding down the INSERT key while powering on. That works on most Gigabyte boards - it resets all CMOS settings to default.

This is going to sound dumb but did you use that spacers/pilars to offset the motherboard in the case? Many first timers don't and screw the board to the case directly.

The case I used is the Silverstone SG05. Has standoffs preinstalled.

You can test the RAM by inserting one stick at a time. Try each stick individually in at least 2 different RAM slots. It's extremely unlikely that both are faulty at the same time.

If you can't work out that it's faulty RAM, then I would strongly advise sending the whole lot back to Scan again on the basis that if they find one faulty component they won't charge you a NFF fee.

If you send back just the motherboard, and it's the CPU that's faulty, they'll charge you a fortune.

However, they don't always offer the service, seems to be a bit hit and miss as to whether they'll do it or not.

thanks mate. I have tried both ram sticks seperately etc... same issue. But the ram was from a different reseller, I'll see if they'll accept the cpu and motherboard together to see which is faulty.

Ah, that's a pain. Mind you, as I said, it's very unlikely that both RAM sticks failed independently so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

have you connected the 4 or 8 pin cpu connection as well as the 24 pin main motherboard connection ?

if so then take it out the case and test again.

yep n tested it in and out of the case
