    Laptop CPU

Hello I am looking to buy a second hand laptop and I have my eyes on a couple of asus laptops. the main difference between the two is the cpu bus type. One is FSB the other is DMI with a slightly lower clock speed. I was wondering whether there would be any significant performance increase for the DMI cpu and how it would compare to the FSB CPU? Please see comparison below:

    Any advise much appreciated

I would favour the more recent CPU than a 2 year old one anyday. I think improvements in the core and cache etc should outweigh the lower clockspeed.

Additionally, when picking a laptop one of the last things I'd be concerned about is the CPU bus type, pick a laptop that suits your price point and does what you need and let the rest fall into place

I agree with Caesium. It really depends on what you want the laptop for, I got a dell d620 and all this is use for is surfing and watching a few movies.

    Re: Laptop CPU

Do they both have integrated intel graphics?

If so you want the Pentium P6100, which has the new Intel HD graphics and spanks the GMA4500 (which the Core 2 laptop will have) soundly. It's also a newer CPU architecture than the Core 2 so it'll have slight tweaks to improve the per-clock performance, and it's got an integrated(ish!) memory controller so it's less likely to become memory constrained (although very few tasks are actually memory constrained, tbh).

So unless there's another difference in spec (memory size, hard drive, graphics type?) go for the newer one

Hard to say from CPU alone which laptop I'd take, they'll be pretty close in performance in the grand scheme of things but on balance I'd take the Pentium if all other things were equal...

What are the other specs of the laptops? I for example and always willing to trade off some power to gain lower weight and more battery...
