Question Who are "KOMPUTERBAY"?? + pc2-8500 question

    Interested in http://www.amazon.co.uk/Komputerbay-...5468086&sr=1-8

    pc2-8500 @ 1.8v??

    Worth a risk?

I think my 965p-s3 would see it as 6400/800MHZ but an overclock to pc2-8500/1066MHZ speeds (or more likely 900 and something) should be practically guaranteed? right ??

I'm still tempted to try "komputerbay", supporting small businesses and all?

    why?

    the ballistix is nice too

if it comes to parts like memory, psu, etc, I wanna make sure that the company uses quality components, and they are up to standard, it just not worth experimenting. And I did not find any review or thread which would confirm that the mentioned product is ok.

If they would sell cable ties or similar, then I would give them a chance without hesitation

Re: Who are "KOMPUTERBAY"?? + pc2-8500 question

I took a gamble on some ram like this from fleabay, supposedly 1800mhz cas9 1.35v actually 1333mhz cas9 1.5v, which was ok because it was still cheaper than 1333mhz ram at the time.
I really wish I had held out another 2 months because that's when ddr3 prices plummeted.

Back too the issue at hand, photoshopped images and a fake looking review, not sure I'd trust that one.

2.2v is not an issue for ddr2, it can go up to 2.4v, however the memory controller inside the phenomII is another matter, 2.2v is pretty much the safe max for it.
Most DDR2 PC2-8500 however does run at 2v or more I'd say that Crucial Ballistix set is probably your best bet and probably some of the best ddr2 you'll find.

Re: Who are "KOMPUTERBAY"?? + pc2-8500 question

my fleabay gamble seems to have not paid off either, bought some ram and it appears to be a bit dud and broken .

2.2v only puts me off because it's more power drawn, more heat in the system more strain generally. I'm not even sure if my motherboard would just boot up to 2.2v without me forcing it beforehand.

The crucial does look good, there's a g-skill set with the same specs going around which probably has the same chips inside. Still the crucial I can buy direct from them with their apparent assurance that it will work on my motherboard. A good idea in case something goes wrong.

I don't need the 8500, it's just that I've been reading that a lot of the current 6400 will not go very far, if I know that at least the memory is supposed to hit those speeds I have less chance of hampering my cpu overclock (can't wait to move to unlocked cpu multipliers!) so seems to be an obvious choice.

    Thanks!
