    Decent wireless gaming mouse

    Hi All

My Sidewinder X8 has just given up (Second time in a year and half), so I'm looking for a new mouse with comparable specs. I'd prefer wireless as I can't stand using a mouse with a wire. The X8 was great for this as there's zero lag but I wasn't sure if any other mice are as good yet?

Ideally it would have on the fly dpi switching and at least two buttons on the right side of the mouse.

    Any suggestions?

    Re: Decent wireless gaming mouse

Most gaming mice are wired because of the latency inherent in wireless systems. That said Logitech have got the g700 wireless gaming mouse that I believe was released fairly recently.

As this is the second time your mouse has given up in such a short time it may be worth contacting Microsoft about a repair/replacement first though.

    Re: Decent wireless gaming mouse

I've emailed MS just waiting for them to reply. My first mouse's right button stuck and was replaced by Ebuyer straight away. This one, the LCD display just flashes up with the battery icon and an exclamation mark, and all the lights flash non stop, and won't charge!

I hate having to contact MS about anything, I couldn't even find any troubleshooting guides on their website or anything!

Wasn't their a couple of Razor wireless mice floating around too?

    Re: Decent wireless gaming mouse

The thing about wireless adding latency is marketing crap. The latency in any properly designed wireless mouse should be completely unnoticeable vs a wired mouse. I use a Logitech MX620 mouse and could recommend it, just it's been discontinued. Logitech's customer services are also great. Basically, just find a mouse you like - you might be best calling into PC World or somewhere to see if there are any on display to try out, mice are very personal things and not everyone will like the same ones.

    Thanks watercooled.

I agree, I have never had any latency issues with the Sidewinder X8. I am currently using an old Saitek GM-3200 I had floating and performance is no where near the X8. I wonder if some of thats to do with the X8 being a Blutrack (or whatever it's called) mouse?

I do like the look of the G700 though, seems to tick most boxes.

    Re: Decent wireless gaming mouse

I think it has a lot to do with the sensor quality and response time, i.e. better quality mice will notice smaller movements and respond faster - most optical and laser mice will have the light source 'on' only when moving and pulse it when it's idle, waiting for movement. The problem is if the delay between the pulses is fairly long, you may notice there is some delay between moving the mouse and the cursor moving. Some gaming mouse MFRs solve this by keeping the source constantly on which should be fine for a wired mouse, but will eat battery life in a cordless mouse. But even without this a mouse can respond fairly quickly, if they make the pulses short but more frequent for example. My MX620 has no noticeable delay and the batteries do last about a year, just as Logitch claim. I've seen a few comments about these 'always on' mice with them failing relatively quickly, apparently due to the light source wearing out. I'm not sure how accurate this is but it's something to bear in mind.

Wired vs wireless is also more of a personal thing IMO, I personally don't like having a wire - with my setup they tend to get snagged a lot and they move the mouse when you let go of it.

I agree, that G700 does look nice.

either ring up or email Microsoft mate as they are the best for warranty support, youll get a replacement within a week and dont need to send yours back and best of all, the warranty is renewed with every replacement so if it breaks every 2 years youll have a mouse for life!
