Help me setup my SSD's please

:D
Anyway, i want to use RAID0 and TRIM.
http://www.bit-tech.net/news/hardwar...rim-for-raid/1
Could someone talk me through it please? I plan to use my current 1TB HDD as storage and to hold all my current files. Can I just move it to SATA port 3 and plug my two SSD's in 1 and 2 and RAID them then install Win7 whilst still using my old HDD to have all my games or is there anything else I need to change?
If you have any other suggestions on how to install my SSD's I would love to hear them. Ideally I would like RAID0 with TRIM.
My mobo is an Asus P6X58D-E
Thanks

I'm not helping you, you show off :D
Nah seriously, I'm pretty sure that if you reinstall windows, most of your programs/games will need reinstalling also. The required files are not always put in the program folders and dropped into system-folders - Not to mention the Raid-0 splitting confusing matters. If you wanna do something properly, do it from scratch mate - Back up your data from your 1TB then format the lot and proceed from there.
On another note, you know what you can do with two stickers that you couldn't otherwise do with one? Its Art Attack time! Get out your sticky back plastic and safety scissors for...

EDIT: I really couldn't help you anyway, I'm a noob at it myself :)

But seriously, I do need a bit of help setting the SSD's up as this is the first time I will be using them
Re: Help me setup my SSD's please
you cannot trim drives in raid 0, you can trim a single drive that on a raid array but not when using any form of raid.

Available over on Intel's website – via TechConnect Magazine – the new Rapid Storage Technology driver allows users of selected Intel motherboards to enjoy the benefits of RAID without losing the benefits of TRIM support.
Do you have the right motherboard?

TRIM support for SSDs in a RAID configuration is under investigation and is not included in Intel® RST 9.6.
Sorry to spoil yr fun.
As for importance of TRIm it really depends on how large the drives are and what is the usage pattern.

awwwwwww :(
I think I'll intall them as two seperate drives. How would I install TRIM on both of them if they were seperate? anything in particular I have to do?
Re: Help me setup my SSD's please
TRIM works automatically assuming you run th right OS - Windows 7 for example.
But nothing really stands in the way of using the Raid0 set since you will have a dedicated storage drive anyway and current controllers do prevent the extensive writing to the SSDs anyway.
You may face some performance reduction in like several months to a half year period. Just run some benches used in today's SSD reviews, save the screenshots and check the performance in about a month to see if and how far the performance degraded. SHould it drop below what you'd call decent for such set you can always do a complete reinstall and you'll be just as good as with new drives :)

i dont need to read the link, its probably one of the websites that printed the wrong information and never retracted it.
having just looked at it if the OP took the time to read the comments further down the link he posted this thread would not be here ;)
