Graphics Card suggestion Please.
Well its been a while....
I would really appreciate any advice on a new graphics card. I have been unable to stay updated with tech for the last few months for various reasons and so am out of the loop :(
I just found £170 in my paypal account and decided to finally get a GPU. Im happy to add a little to that, but wouldn't think i'd need to with my requirements - not looking to max out Crysis.
Im not looking for anything massively powerful, but i may want to run two monitors.
When i was last around it seemed like the GTX460/560 or AMD(ATI) 6750/6770.
Also good manufacturers/models would be nice to know.
Im using an AM3 Asus m4a89gtd pro motherboard with the 6core 1090t
I can use the paypal for Scan or if i know what card to look for then i'm happy to ebay.
Any advice or recommendations would be great,
Thanks =]

What sort of games will you be playing? I assume that you will be playing games.

Well maybe some COD or something, but im really not fussed at all if its not running at max.
My brother also plays Runescape on the PC, but im sure whatever graphics card can breeze through that.
The big thing is being able to support two monitor =]
Thanks for the quick reply
Edit: This look any good?

Edit 2: Should i look for 2xDVI? All the cards are so much cheaper since last time i looked :)

Does this 6950 still unlock to a 6970?
Re: Graphics Card suggestion Please.
Actually that looks to be pretty good at the price.
This might help you decide, http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=30427&page=6.
I know it's not the same card but at least you get an idea of FPS.
If you go the AMD HD route you will definitely run 2 screens and 3 screens if it's of high enough spec.
Re: Graphics Card suggestion Please.
For that sort of money (and depending upo how god your PSU is) you could get a ScanFX HD6950 AMD / ATI Graphics Card - 2GB for £189:23 and it might unlock into a 6970 shader unit.
Get another screen and go for eyefinity :)
Re: Graphics Card suggestion Please.
Thanks both of you - looks like im going for the 6950 :D
Shall I go for the XFX or the Scan one. The XFX seems to get good reviews and would probably run cooler?

The 2gb XFX is on Today Only at SCAN
Re: Graphics Card suggestion Please.
Sweet! I will buy it BUT
My motherboard only support DirectX 10.1 - What difference will this make?
Re: Graphics Card suggestion Please.
Your motherboard will support what ever dx your windows is running . DX is OS dependent. Your running W7 and the card is DX 11 so your fine.
I have the XFX one thats in today only (£190:97) and its a stock card so wont run any cooler than the scan one but it will allow shader unlocking and if its like mine run at 6970 speeds as well.

I think that it's the intergrated graphis that supports 10, the 6950 is 11.
Re: Graphics Card suggestion Please.
Is a 6950 really necessary? If you're only gonna be playing COD and Runescape then you could get away with a 5770 and have juice left to spare for eyefinity (and have a wad of cash left over too)!

Thank you very much for your help
Maybe zhaoman is right though; is it too powerful? Probably. How about a 6870?

You can get a 6870 from Aria for £140 with 3 free games - More than good enough for what you want. To be freaking honest... I have no idea why I'm buying a 6950 instead of a 6870 with 3 freaking games... (Someone found one with 4 games a couple of weeks ago!)

I would like to thank everyone for the help =]
I have ordered the XFX 6870 from Scan (because they accept Paypal) on today only:

I'm pretty sure this is the Black Edition one even if it isn't listed as it.
Edit: It's not the black edish - just has the same fan minus the overclock
Re: Graphics Card suggestion Please.
6870 is a good card but I personally would have picked up a 6950 and overclocked it to a 6970.
Hope you enjoy =)
