Some new info about the Dell U2311H
It uses a 6 bit panel:
http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/news_arc...#colour_depths
In fact it seems all the 21.5" and 23" budget IPS panels are 6 bit with A-FRC.
This could explain why people were having issues with "grainy" whites and greys with this monitor.
Re: Some new info about the Dell U2311H
Is this a good thing or a bad thing? The u2311 was on my 'to buy' list.
Re: Some new info about the Dell U2311H
This has been known for some time (On Aria at least). Either way, I'm more than happy with my U2311H. :)

In most cases should make no difference if the FRC is implemented properly. But many people were thinking it was a true 8 bit panel.
The LG IPS231P-BN uses the same panel and is much cheaper too:

Personally,I want a 16:10 monitor so I would need to get more expensive monitor!

Re: Some new info about the Dell U2311H
i knew about this after a took delivery of the item, tftcentral picked up on it and also mentioned that it was a solid implementation since they didnt even notice! Its still one of their best monitors for blacks etc so it clearly hasnt made a difference :).
Re: Some new info about the Dell U2311H
Most of these monitors are 16:9 so MEH! I prefer 16:10 displays.
Having said that I have used quite a few higher end Dell and Apple displays so perhaps I am expecting too much from the budget ones! :( Funnily enough all of the higher end panels are 8 bit or are 8 bit+FRC (10 bit).
Edit!!
I have been looking at some comparisons of the earlier 2209WA and the U2311H and the former seems to have better viewing angles and looks to be better for image editing. Looks like I don't need to break the bank after all.

I haven't been looking too much at monitors in the last few months!!
This chap reviews monitors and seems to have used both the 2209W(8 bit e-IPS panel) and U2311H:
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/sho...64&postcount=5
"Having had considerable experience with the U2311H and some with the 2209WA I wouldn't place too much between them. I would be tempted to say that for whatever reason the luminance uniformity is generally poorer on the U2311H and you may be playing swapsies once again. The backlight arrangement is a little different as the U2311H has 4 CCFL bulbs behind the edges whereas the 2209WA has 6 behind the panel in a direct-lighting arrangement. This can contribute to generally superior luminance uniformity and colour consistancy. The contrast readings from the centre and overall black depth if recorded in this way is relatively poor on the 2209WA in comparison to the U2311H but it isn't really something I consider strong on either monitor and such a measurement is a little limiting in this case. I found the colour gradients to be smoother on the 2209WA and the apparent colour range (particularly at the low end and greens more generally) to be a bit stronger, too. Really for gaming, though, the U2311H may be a nice upgrade for the resolution alone and performance is above and beyond most others in its price range."
Once the 2209WA has sold out it looks like I will have to spend £350+ on a decent 16:10 monitor.

What are you using the monitor for??
Remember the 2209WA is around £240 to £250 which is much more than the U2311H and the LG IPS231P-BN.
Re: Some new info about the Dell U2311H
Games :P Using a samsung 226BW atm for games and it just lacks vibrancy, brightness and colours!

edit
Damn just found a review says to avoid it for fast paced games beause of ghosting issues :(
Re: Some new info about the Dell U2311H
Reading around the ghosting isnt meant to be an issue. Managed to find this video on youtube showing it gaming if thats any help.
