Help me what hardware do I need? (Upgrading)

I want to upgrade my CPU to Intel Core i7 2600K, what the following hardware do I need?

I do a lot of video encoding, web browsing and web development mostly.

My budget is tight, £300 to £400.

do I need replace motherboard and CPU?

I would like to buy from Scan only.

    Current spec of my PC:
    AMD Phenom II X4 945 3-Ghz
    4.0GB Dual-Channel DDR2
    ATI Radeon HD 4650
    Windows 7
    1TB Samsung Hard Drive
    Motherboard: ASUSTeK Computer INC. M3A78-T

Is your install of Win7 OEM? If so you'll be needing another license. I'd imagine you'll be needing to replace your RAM with DDR3 too.

Is there a particular reason you want the K version of the chip? You might be best served going for an H67 motherboard and using quick-sync for the encoding, while the onchip graphics should still be enough for your work.

Win7 is not OEM Proper full licence.

so I need new Ram and Motherboard only?

    Which one do you recommend?

AMD 8-core Bulldozer CPUs to be released next month. I suggest waiting just with the ambition of the CPU price wars assuming the raw performance may not be all that great for your tasks.

What PSU do you have BTW??

Your motherboard can run a Phenom II X6:

You can get a Phenom II X6 1090T for £126:

I had a look at the CPU comparison

It is not much difference, so there is point getting that..

I think I will wait for AMD 8-core Bulldozer

Your 945 is clocked nearly 10% lower than a 955BE though.

    This would make a 1090T between 10% to 60% faster than a 945.

A Core i7 2600 is only around 10% to 30% faster than a Phenom II X6 1090T in video encoding:

A four module Bulldozer will probably do even better IMHO although ATM performance in more lightly threaded tasks is not well known. However,Turbo Core is meant to more aggressive.

Sounds like the best idea, assuming you're not in a rush. I'm holding off a build until the release too.
