Just cant help myself - Corsair 650D
So i went to novatech to pick up a HDD and a switch for my micro server, ended up walking away with 2 x HDD, a switch and a 650D... whups.
Il post up some pics of the 650D as im switching over from my old Coolermaster case (lasted 5 years!), let me know if there are any specific ones you want. Have to say im quite excited!
Will just be unpacking today mainly as i think im gunna head over to London, too ncie of a day to waste inside!
Re: Just cant help myself - Corsair 650D
I have been looking at this case lately. The dimensions are riduculous huge but it does look like it has a lot of space.
Good luck with it :D
Re: Just cant help myself - Corsair 650D
Well my plans to go to london fell through, everyone was either skint or working so instead i chilled out and slowly swapped my componants over. Thought i would do a little mini review and try and pick up on things that actual reviewers might miss. My photos are pretty gash, turns out my hangover from the previous night hit me a little later in the day :(
Before i being, il post up a pic of my old coolermaster. This thing has lasted through countless builds and been lugged around all over the country with me. It served me well although there is no built in cable management so it looks pretty bad

It reality it didnt look that messy and the cables where quite well organised but photos dont really seem to do it justice :(
First impressions as i took the case out from the packaging where good, very tidy looking case with a hint of class and elegance.

Plenty of little extras such as cable ties and screws is always a bit of a bonus although one this i think that is missing is a better manual with description of what all the bits are, for example there is a fan adaptor which i would assume is a resistor to slow the fans down... although it didnt really do anything when i tried it :/

Unfortunately as i started to pull off all the protective covers and got closer to the case i noticed the sides do not sit flush to the rest of the case.

Its kind of difficult to see but its about 2mm off. Bit of a shame really, i assume its to do with the fact the clips are not close enough to the edges of the case. Anyone any ideas on how to correct it?
Re: Just cant help myself - Corsair 650D
Anyway i continued on and did the usual pull, push, squeeze and shake to get a feel for how the thing was put together. Aside from the side panels being a bit loose i was pretty impressed by how everythign had a very clunky, solid feel. I actually played with the HDD drive cages and the DVD drive cage for quite a bit just because they make that lovely 'clunk' or 'click' sound when you use them :D

Similar story for the front fan grill

and the clips which are on the 5.25 drive slots, big difference from the usual cases where you basically have to punch them out

One thing which is worth noting is that if you are using a 2.5" laptop drive rather than an SSD, there isnt really any anti vibration for it. The image shows the anti vibration for 3.5 and the holes for the 2.5" drives.

Here is a laptop drive mounted to the bracket

God there is a lot of cables to tidy before i have even started :o

As i was moving it around i hit another dissapointment.

Rubber foot just came off. Was only one of them the other are on pretty solid, just a shame really. Bit of super strong pritstick for the time being i reckon.
The build went pretty smooth, cant say i ran into any difficulty and all my componants are boring so wasnt much point taking pictures, maybe i will when i buy my AMD FX system :)
One thing which was annoying but was more about my motherboard, my graphics card means i cant have the hard drive slot on the top plugged in :(

Wow its easy to make these things look tidy inside

Looks good witht he enermax fan light turned on aswell

Im gunna have a go at rerouting thecables on the back though, there is a few too many all bunched up and it made the side quite hard to get on, i really wish PSU manufacturers would start sleeving the 24 pin connector a bit better, its so difficult to manage it properly when its all sleeved together in one and id rather not void my warrenty by doing it myself.
The fans as stock where quite noisey, i had to use the resistors i got with the Noctuas on all of them to slow them down and keep them quiet. Occationally you do seem to get a bit of a resonance or a rattle coming from the top mounted fan, kind of annoying really, i might have to change the screw mounts for the rubber plug type ones.
Only fan really making any noise now is my 5870.
I spent a lot of time and money getting my old case quiet, this is just a first attempt at this one so a lot more work will go into it. Before i had 2 x Akasa Apache fans aswell as the enermax one running off the PWM socket on the motherboard, worked really well in keeping the computer quiet at idle and cool when under load, seeing as the main fans are the big 200mm ones in this case im guessing thats not really going to be an option. I do have a fan controller which im cosidering putting in althogh all those damn thermometers is such a pain in the butt... Im guessing the motherboard i get with my new build will probably do the job just fine.
Anyway let me know if there are any questions
Re: Just cant help myself - Corsair 650D
I WANT ONE but I cant afford one nor can I justify spending £130 after I purchased my nzxt tempest last year. If I ever get the money it will either be an ssd or the 650d. Also doesn't the 650 come with a fan controller ?
Re: Just cant help myself - Corsair 650D
Unless i have missed something no, the 600T does
