    Only 8GB of 16GB shows in Bios/Computer

    Hi all,

I'm completely stuck; I have 4 sticks of 4GB Corsair memory in my computer. However in both Bios and in Computer it is only showing a total of 8GB.

When the computer was new it did correctly show 16GB (3 weeks ago).

I don't know when it went wrong, but I have booted it happily off each stick and with any combination of 2 it shows 8GB, which leads me to believe that there must be a mother board related issue, whether that's because it's broken or there's some spectacularly obvious thing I'm missing.

    Does anybody have any ideas?

    Many thanks.

    - The mobo does support 16GB
    - It's Windows 7 64-bit

Windows 7 64-bit (I did write it above just in case anybody thought I was only on 32-bit hence it would only show 3GB).

That suggests it should support 192GB. But isn't the problem above the software as the bios also reports just 8GB.

    You tested each mobo slot?

Ahh no, good idea. Should I take a single stick and run it through each slot seeing which work?

Is it the system in your sig or a different one? There were some ASUS boards that were having this issue and they pushed several BIOS versions to try and fix it.

It's the one in my signature. Shuttle's website offers a few newer BIOS versions but none mention anything to do with Ram issues: http://global.shuttle.com/products/p...Id=1389&osId=7

As it happens, it has now (or rather I've only just noticed) started having USB issues; if I try to copy data to or from any device via a variety of plugs it disconnects and reconnects. (ETA: Now noticing that it's dropping in and out with keyboard and mouse too)

Sounds increasingly like my motherboard has nuked itself I think.

    Yes, and yes

Well, not for certain, obviously, but that doesn't sound good at all.

Without wanting to pour water on the fire, both of the Shuttles I owned had their mobos die within a couple of years.

Not that much of a fan of them now given that there are some really nice Silverstone cases and good MATX boards about. Granted, a tad bigger, but the expandability and ease of upgrades is worth it to me.

Yup, my last motherboard popped a few weeks ago after 3 years of good service. Although my other Shuttle is 4 years on and still going strong. This one at only 3 weeks clearly has some sort of issue but I tend to take it around and about with me a fair bit so it's amazingly easy to just put it in a Shuttle bag and head off.

Have submitted an RMA as it seems that the 3rd and 4th ram slots are dead, no idea what the USB issue is about.
