Well laptop toally froze today in game, reset it to be presented with a bootup screen with a load of garbage for text, failed to boot into windows. Reset again to be presented with a screen filled with a hundred lines of all shapes and colours. I'm assuming the GPU is toast? did a power drain and rebooted got as far as windows login to be presented with a bluescreen about nvidia then back to magic line coloured display.
Any suggestions before it get launched out the window.
looks right to me, might be worth checking if that model has a plug in vga card so you can order another ?

It does, theirs a replacement card on ebay but its refurbished and in the USA, tad reluctent to spend £100 on something from their with little chance of return. HP charges about £300 for them which obviously ani't worth it.
Welcome to the world of proprietary parts, this is why I'll never get a laptop as my main system or as a gaming system (gaming would just be a nice optional extra)
Also why I'd be willing to shell out for extended warranties on laptops but not a desktop.
You can remove the gpu and try the old oven bake resolder trick, other than that keep looking for a replacement card.
fleabay has been the cheapest source for replacement laptop parts I've found, official sources are often massively overpriced (eg I've been looking for a replacement toshiba screen, fleabay about £75, official toshiba parts supplier £290)

Get the feeling I'm on borrowed time, but if it last till the end of June when bulldozer is out ill be happy as ill build a PC then lol.
Nice one, as you say however it could still fail, repasteing and reseating the cooler may help slightly too.

lol gas mark 6 for 9-10 mins after preheating, allow to set for 1 hr, recook at gas mark 6 for a further 9-10 mins, allow to cool for another hour before rebuilding. Apparently its important to make sure the die is facing down as well. Also make sure you take the heatsink clip off the card, unlike me lol, the rubber makes a interesting smell as its cooking.
Not a clue if this would work for a PS3 though.

i know the xbox one was a quids worth of nuts and bolts followed by overheating it to get it running again.
