Replacing my laptop - Need something smaller

I've decided that whilst there is nothing wrong with my laptop, I'd like to get something smaller and even more portable.

Currently running a HP G70120EA which is more a desktop replacement than a portable system I suppose. With it's 17 inch screen it certainly is quite a beast to carry about. Since getting the biggest room in the house I tend use my desktop for pretty much everything, and the laptop only gets used to check my e-mails, and maybe the odd bit of surfing before I goto work to catchup on forums etc.

So why do I need a dual core full size laptop for that ?

I've decided to sell it, with the specs (T5800 2 GHz dual core, 3 Gigs of ram, 320 gig HDD and GeForce 9200 with 256 megs of ram) it should be pretty easy to sell in the local paper for approx £250-£280

Selling a few other things too so should hopefully have £600, which I'd like change out of.

I'm so out of touch with the laptop market since not working in Curry's anymore so just really looking for ideas where to go.

I like the idea of a netbook, pretty small not over kill for the use I have in mind, but don't want one with Windows 7 starter. Also an Acer Timeline would be quite nice, for example max screen size I'd goto now is 15 inch.

Games don't even come into it, just don't need to play games on a laptop and not an enjoyable experience either to be fair.

General surfing may need some power to do some photographic work on it so decent sized hard drive would be handy. Would love to buy something without an os if I could as I have a spare Windows 7 HP 64 bit license (retail)

    Anyway your thoughts please gents.

Acer Timeline 11" was a lovely laptop, bit too expensive for me though and took too long to hit the UK. 1810 or something I think it was.

HP DM1 is a great laptop, very good value for money.

It is very well built, has a splash proof keyboard and is made of magnesium alloy. It weighs just under 2KG with the battery.

Better deal, use the offer code WHIT-1 (I think) to get £50 off. That one even ahs a sim card slot for 3g, and it's got a faster processor.

That Tosh look near in destructible but I really don't think I need an I5 based laptop, all the major grunt work is done by my X2 555 BE PC Not looking for a desktop replacement.

It will last longer than some of the cheaper plastic fantastics though. I have handled one in person and I was quite impressed considering you can get it for around £550 for an i3 based one:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004K7VRC...SIN=B004K7VRCO

You can get a refurbished one for £480:

    http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/GRADE...EN/version.asp

However,it seems you missed some deals on the slightly higher end R700 for £500 and under:

    http://search.laptopsdirect.co.uk/search?w=r700

The CULV laptops will have a slower CPU than your current laptop unless you can find a Sandy Bridge based Pentium.

In fact if CPU power is not a concern I would consider an HP DM1Z which is AMD E350 based laptop. The IGP is also quite decent too.

The toshiba is nice, I've seen it in shops and it's light and thin. I'd say get something cheaper though if you don't need the power, an asus ul30 or something smaller (fusion based) should do you fine, for instance an hp dm1z.

Must admit, am quite tempted buy that Tosh now I've looked at the specs again, and at £479 for a refurb. When people tell me Toshiba I keep thinking of the tat I used to sell at Curry's, must get my head out of that mindset.

Someone has thrown a small spanner in the works though and has pointed me to the Asus EEE Transformer, although I do I have a few concerns about that.

I just saw these deals on HUKD:

    http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/asus...3-rpp-8/949177

    http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/dell...-449-98/948053

I would if the code from the first deal can be used with an R700:

    http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/produ...dummy-warranty

    Edit!!

Here is a review of the Asus laptop:

    http://www.techradar.com/reviews/pc-...-925024/review

    It seems quite heavy.

Here is a review of the Adamo:

    http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-...k.16713.0.html

I suspect the Toshiba is better built than either the Dell or the Asus. However, the Dell does have an SSD even though it uses a Core2 CPU.

Msi do a 13" fusion laptop for ~£450 with 4gb / 500gb which could be worth looking at if you want portable but better than netbook...

Even 15.6 will be more portable than my current laptop, which has now been sold, just waiting the buyer to come over and pay for it tomorrow.
