Corsair CX series V2 released

There seems to be a second version of the current Corsair CX series being released:

I noticed on the second link it does not show the duration of the warranty for the new version.

One thing is for sure, I won't be buying one.

The "new" units have much improved efficiency although funnily enough this means overload wattage is actually less. The warranty is now three years.

However,the PSU still uses el-cheapo capacitors and a sleeve bearing fan.

My main criticism was its poor build quality which is backed up by the JonnyGuru review. On top of the JonnyGuru review also criticised the low efficiency of the CX430W which is another complaint I had.

The fact is that Corsair within a very short period have replaced the original CX range which only proves some of my points. They have basically had to beef up some of the internal components.

Antec and XFX have surpassed the lower end Corsair PSUs in build quality and in many cases have a longer warranty.

Currently buying XFX PSU's, Antec Gamer, Antec new true powers, Silverpower with SS in the model numbers. One thing in common - manufactured by Seasonic.

This is also the case for the mid-high end PSUs aswell IMO, especially modular ones. I think corsair have got a bit cocky and arrogant and started to abuse the reputation they have, fortunately Antec and XFX seem to be driving them back down a bit.

V2 is the same platform just upgraded a few components so it would pass 80 Plus. The V1s were pretty close to 80 Plus, so it was only a bit of engineering work and some time to source enough components for mass production.

The things we all got snotty about was as follows:

• The CX430w was lower performance than the CX400 it replaced
• The CX430w used lower grade capacitors than the CX400
• The CX430w was more expensive than the CX400w
• The new CX range was lower efficiency than the original CX400w
• The CX500w is no better on the +12v than the CX430w, the extra current is on the +3.3v and +5v which is of little use to most people.
• The CX range warranty was shorter than the original CX400w

The CX430w is not a bad psu, it's just that it lost all the small details that made the original CX400w so good, to compound matters other companies brought out very good lower end & low cost psu's
All told I'd not say Corsair are bad psu's but they are not as good value for money now as they where when they first hit the PSU market.

Personally speaking to my mind Corsair is not in a similar place that ThermalTake* is, i.e. their high end units are very good, but the quality and value on the mid and lower range ends is far less.

I think the main issue with the US orientated reviews is that in the US with rebates supposedly the CX430W can be had for little as $25!!!

Even,with VAT that would £20 making it a bargain!

The review of the CX430W V2 also states it costs $35 with a rebate at launch. Even with VAT it would mean it would cost £28.

same here, in addition I warn against the 500w model over the 430w model, seeing as both are the same on the 12v rail.

But people are still drawn in by the higher number and the brand.

There are some new brands being stocked by Scan too.

One is CobaNitrox which is supposedly made by CWT and Rasurbo which is made by HEC.

I have used the model they where using previously in a few builds and they seemed pretty solid, damned if i remember what they where called

Yes a bit annoying as I though enermax made all their own psu's

The older one where the Eco80+, the Pro82+ and the Liberty Eco

Should of been given the clue by the price.
