i bought the corsair obsidian 650d due to the fact that it can fit the graphic card the xfx 6990 which is 13 inches long and also has wire management and good cooling the only bit is there no manual at all just a illustration of the case

FWIW, my fave case is the simple Akasa Zen, cheap as chips and well cooled. All black and not a fashion statement

Yes the old Akasa Zen was a great basic mid-tower, The coolermaster 330 is up there with it as a good basic mid-tower

See I dont mind that either, it reminds me of my Compaq , but 330 seems more relevant now , as this might be too outdated , can it hold a 12 " gpu ?

    elite 330
230mm/9inch without a hard drive in the bay behind the card

Cannot find any numbers for the zen however as the layout and size is roughly the same it should be the same space inside.

So ether would fit a 6850, but a 6870 is too long, a gtx560 should just about squeeze in (check details first)

This really shows the advantage to a removable hard drive cage.

edit: @g8ina can you grab a tape measure and tell us what the gpu space is? (distance between pci slots and hard drive cage)

Doesnt look like I could use the H60 cooler though unless i drilled a hole, Id need the 690 2 advanced, or that 9 " wide silver monster you mentioend in the other thread.

    Arrgh, yes it can.

these all-in-one coolers use a 120 radiator and fan, so can be used on almost any 120mm fan mount.

A 120mm rad sticks out slightly so is around 120mm x 152mm, however if the fan is mounted first that will generally lift the rad clear.

Re: Something I dont get at all about Scans site.

    I don't know?

For me a bottom mounted psu layout give the advantage of being able to put fan in the top of the case to greatly increase the exhaust around the cpu area, getting hot air out of the case as quickly as possible is a big advantage in cooling.
Also having the psu separate (cool air in from below and straight out the back) helps improve the life of a psu.

I'd not want a highly overclocked cpu and dual graphics card system in a 330 or zen as they don't really have the cooling for it.

being able to use 140mm fans over 120mm fans is good as the larger area means ether more air flow at the same noise level or having the fan spin slower giving similar air flow at reduced noise.
It's one of those basic factors about fans
rpm + size = noise + air flow

I've got an old zalman 92mm fan some where, at full speed it's anything but quiet but it moves a heck of a lot of air, slow it down to the point that it's quiet and it doesn't move as much as a 120mm fan at the same noise level.

And from the tests I've done at the same noise level a 140mm fan will move more air than a 120mm fan

If you think about fans and cases in the same way as cpu's, if you're willing to pay for a quad core over a dual core then why are you not willing to get a 140mm fan over a 120mm or even a 120mm over a 92mm? and why would you want a narrower case when a wider case has better cooling options (both fans and cpu coolers) and more space for cable management?
