My Dad has just ruined his by spilling tea all over it whilst on holiday. He's texted me and asked me to check out a new one for him.
He travels a bit for work so battery life is important. Ideally 15" sized. All he uses it for is email/browsing and maybe the odd film here and there, so it doesn't need to be fantastic.
I was looking at the Samsung Q430... any other ideas?
Are Dell still decent?

Samsung Q430 is a 14 incher I think? I think you will need a Q530. Can also check out RV511.
But I think 15 inch is pretty bulky to carry around. I find 14 inch the best for me. 13 inch is very easy to carry around but you have to get used to the screen size as it will be small but if he is a single program kind of guy, it should be ok (need to get used to the fonts though).
You can have a look at some Acer laptops which are thin, light and with long battery life (e.g. 5810T). Asus also does some (e.g. K53E).
I am also not sure on your price range but the Lenovo thinkpad t420 with the 9 cell is pretty good. Also has a good case so its sturdy but it will cost you. If you have the money, I like Thinkpad the best (more than HP).
I think Dell does some good business laptops (I don't like their consumer stuff - my opinion though) but I don't know them as well.

Asus (check out their U and K ranges - I think U series are more portable though)

I've currently got an Acer 3810TZ and find it the perfect balance of size, weight and battery life (well over 6 hours, sometimes as much as 8 depending on what I do with it). As usxhe says, 15" laptops aren't the most portable: I've really noticed the difference in portability since moving down to a 13" - I haven't noticed the loss of screen size particularly.
Dell Outlet is always worth a look too. I'd agree that their business laptops are probably a little nicer than their consumer laptops, but it's a bit six and two threes really. Outlet prices tend to be very reasonable.

If your dad can handle 13 inch, it opens up A LOT of options
EDIT - it opens up a lot of options because it is effectively the de-facto standard when people thinks of portable laptops right now

To me 13" is the maximum I'd be willing to go for portability, which is the only reason I'd get a laptop in the first place.
I'd not get anything that has an internal non-accessible battery personally, have an accessible means 1 you can carry a spare and 2 you have the option of getting a higher capacity battery.
A higher capacity battery will be heavier and stick out in some way but can provide a major boost to running time.
