Motherboard died, I've replaced it but now Windows wont load...
Hello,
My motherboard set itself on fire, taking the PSU with it (I think) I've replaced the motherboard and PSU, got my PC back up and running, however, now Windows wont load, it tried to repair but wouldn't.
What can I do next?
Reinstall Windows?
The motherboard is the same chipset but is a different manufacturer (was ASUS, now Gigabyte).
Thanks in advance,
Josh

Are you getting the Disk boot failure error?
1. Try a different Sata port.
2. You could also put the disk in to see if you can still see your windows installation.
3. Check the Bios to see if the hard drive isn't disabled in you boot config or if you've got multiple HDDs see if the correct drive is selected to boot.

Make sure you have the drive mode set to IDE and not AHCI in the BIOS if you have the option. Windows gets very upset when going from board to board if you try to keep AHCI active in my experience.

Just hope it didn't take you hard drive with it. :(
Have you got a spare hard drive kicking about? if so install windows on that (with no other drives plugged in) then add the old drive back in and see if you can access it.

Sadly I have come across this with Vista (black screen of death) have tried a few things, but since there is no repair install like XP I have had to reinstall.

Probably need to reinstall. Windows rarely ports well across hardware changes.

Had plenty of success with the XP and Vista repair features (don't forget Vista requires you to slipstream an install DVD to the SP level of the windows install first)...
Windows 7 new "it will do it itself" approach blow chunks from personal experience :(

What version of Windows are you using and what was/is the motherboard? Is it that which is in the info below your name....?
Re: Motherboard died, I\'ve replaced it but now Windows wont load...
Windows 7
QQ6600
2TB Samsung SATA
4GB RAM
X1900
It finds the HD fine, tries booting from Windows, reboots, then comes up with the "I\'m windows i can fix myself" and then tries and then fails.

Correct me if I\'m wrong, but AFAIk Windows 7 comes with all the tools from Vista if you drop into the recovery console when booting off disk?

Correct.
The difference is that XP and Vista you can "repair an installation" by re-installing over an old install from the setup disk.....Windows 7 does not have that option and relies on it's "more sophisticated" auto-repair...which I am 0/4 on after mobo swaps :(
