Power meter suggestions

I am looking at getting one to measure the power consumption of my computer.

Is it worth getting one of the more expensive ones like the Kill-A-Watt or the Prodigit meters or would one of the el-cheapo ones under £10 do the job??

I have the £7.99 one from maplins. It does what it says on the tin(box) : Volts, Amps, Watts, Hz etc.. and if you spend enough time on it you can make it calculate the cost per year - I've not worked out how to do this though (you can do it more accurately just by multiplying the wattage).

The more expensive ones generally have more precision/more functions.

amazon users usally give a fair rating imo` of how good products are ,I need one myself to measure a rogue boiler in my flat.

The first is basically a Kill A Watt P4400 which is a rebadged Prodigit Model 2000MU.

The second uses a ADE7755 IC which is meant to be found in better power meters. ATM,I don't know which is better!

I already decided on the 2nd one, if theres any problems amazon are by far the best when it comes to returning anything .

maplin probducts im not so sure about, I had some which basically did the job but were not good quality and broke down or became erratic.

what did you think of those cube cases from my latest case post ?

Amazon one looks good, Maplin one will be ok but twice the price also free post with Amazon item.

I have this on you linked, its fine it does power factors, however it only does a whole number of watts.

While looking at power meters on amazon this came up the owl nice, you can data log you power use.

I have the Maplin one (Model MU2000).
It does the job and readings are quite accurate* against UKAS calibrated portable appliance tester, power quality meter, clamp tester and DVM.

* I use it for indication only so there was no point in quantifying its accuracy. It is certainly well within 5%

the maplin one looks fine, id actually consider getting one of these. its a good idea!
