Using fire retarded paint / varnish inside a wood case ?

Is there any reason this would be a bad idea i.e. to prevent any accidents , and if so are there any better alternatives available ?

For example something like aluminum tape ?

I ask because im little baffled why none of the wooden cases i see seem to have it.

If there is no flame its OK and for wood to ignite you need a temperature of 300°C if i recall correctly, but they probably do treat it with something like this http://www.russwood.co.uk/cladding/f...duct.php?ID=43, its colourless so you might not have noticed :p but i still would keep a small fire extinguisher at hand.

Yes temperatures high enough to make wood catch fire is not much of an issue in a pc, your pc is going to die before that.

You could use a fire retardant chemical on the inside for added peace of mind, or aluminium tape (beware of causing shorts from tape though.)

well i got 2 things gpu and soundcard

Will 5850 fit in that wee radiocase though i wonder, i think its 9.5 " long but still I dont want anythin g to complex on my first build and sounds like its tight squeeze- then again I just cant see any other case i like , i mean i dont mind wide so much as high but 15 / 16 " - unless i get some low table is my limit.

There is a possibility that the adhesive for the tape might have a lower ignition point:)

Thats a cheery thought,

I've decided to just go ahead an actually order case ( seeing as im housebound anyway ) to see what its like .

The 330 elite coolermaster seems ok , and not too big / relatively easy for a virgin installer like me - we shall see .

so thats just under £200 for soundcard ,gpu and case .

Now I need to sort the motherboard /cpu ,psu, cooler out - not sure if its worth waiting 3 or so month for this bulldozer though , Ive always used Intel .

thanks for the vote , i finally decided just to stick with name that had quality that i could possibly upgrade to better case if i see one.

As much as i liked that radio one it just seemed too.. fiddly with reports of loose drives bays so on ,I still like it thought.

Also had look at those armoured ones ( satanic fred perry case ) but it just didnt sit well - sorry

The wood will only burn if there is a source of ignition, so providing the appropriate protection is in place to protect against faults (ie, correctly rated fuses) there is little risk from the components inside the case.
