Bored on a Saturday afternoon...
So, I got bored. I thought to myself, 'You know what I need? Another PC to play Source engine games on'.
So, half an hour of rooting around in cupboards, the loft, and the corners of my room, I have this:
AMD Athlon XP 1800+ (going to overclock it when the GPU is finished)
512mb of RAM I rescued from a skip (Going to pull another 512 or even 1gb out of my media centre, Ubuntu 11.04 doesn't need 1.5gb)
Some VIA KT400 board
Radeon 9600 128mb (With an arctic cooling VGA cooler v3 I pulled out of a skip)
Samsung 80GB IDE hard drive I rescued from a skip. In perfect condition.
Some cheap case I rescued from a skip.
Let's just say, overclocking is much more fun when you don't care if it blows up :D The GPU is almost at 500mhz (stock is 324), and still going strong.
Anyway, I just wanted to share my 'blast from the past' :D When I'm finished, I might do this...

Brilliant!
I love messing about with old stuff "rescued" from skips too. I tend to get it before it ends up in the skip though as most people I know let me have stuff they are going to throw away.
Definitely agree overclocking is more fun when you don't care if it blows up but I've been lucky so far.

The video card is stable between 480 and 495mhz, but I can only get the memory clock up about 20-30mhz before the screen spazzes out on me.
The processor isn't overclocking as well, it's still below 40C under load, but I can't get it far past 1.8ghz.
Can't wait to try Garry's mod and see what kind of FPS it pulls
