Neoprene fan shroud for air cooler - quieter and more effecient

Annoyed with the vibration and humming caused by the Scythe Gentle Typhoons, I decided on a little modding.

Requirements: 38mm fan clips and 15mm thick self-adhesive neoprene

Results: 3c lower temperatures and vibration eliminated

The megahalems bending inwards is preventing a complete seal, but it still works fine.

Excuse the dust, my PC has run almost 24/7 for 18 months.

    * One day I will spell efficient correctly

Good idea with the neoprene, I make thin washers from wine bottle corks and find that they are quite efficient when it comes to deadening vibration (I use them wherever I need to use a screw).

Interesting, I wouldn't expect that to have any effect on air flow and thus temperatures.
Removing vibration yes and noise from vibration yes, air flow no.

If the cooler face was flat and thus you're preventing air leaking from the edges I'd under stand lower temperatures.

I've done the same before but with Akasa Paxmate cut into thin strips and stuck around the edges of a fan to make a gasket.

You'll still have vibrations fed into the cooler via the clips, but it sounds like the issue was the fan vibrating against the body of the cooler.
