Which Zalman do I put on my northbridge?

Ive currently got a Zalman NB cooler (the blue one, ZM-NB47J or something) on my NF7-,S v2 but was wondering how it would compare to having a ZM17-CU on the NB.

Pics and stats from zalmans site...

    ZALMAN ZM-NB47J

    Dimensions 37(L) X 37(W) X 47(H) mm
    Weight 54g
    Material Aluminum

    ZALMAN ZM17-CU

    1. Dimensions : 125W X 52L X 17H mm
    2. Fin Length : 65mm
    3. No. of Fins : 14
    4. Fin Thickness : 0.3mm
    5. Base Material : Pure Copper
    6. Mass : 120g
    7. Surface Area: 510cm2
    8. Thermal Resistance : 2.2°C/W

The 17-CU weighs a fair bit more than the NB47, is made from copper and has more contact area. Its also very low profile so will have less interference with CPU coolers that have to be bolted on.

The NB47 is actually made for chipsets, and has those long fins. There is also less of a problem removing it since it uses pushpins, but the 17-CU will have to be epoxyed (alumina and AS5) on.

Any of you guys have any suggestions?

the ZM-17 is a cooler for geforce 2 mxes. you'll be lucky to find room for it.

think this might be a better bet though

Ive got the ZM-17 lying around actually, but never sized it up against the mob tho - probs do that later today, but rem its quiet versatile in that you can bend the fins so you could have all of the verticle if you wanted to.

You're suggestion is spot on, but I geuss ure going to have to have a word with David for me... about swapping his one for my ZM-47

You can also use the "Zalman bloo" NB HS as a video card heatsink if you want altho you do sacrifice a couple of PCI slots -

Fits straight on with the supplied push pins using the holes the old push pins holding the fan used

Now wouldnt it be really interesting if the NB47J was better at cooling a low end gfx card than a ZM-17.

And ive given up on the ZM-17, since people on another forum will think it'll just be hassle ... that is unless someone can convince me otherwise
