    First Major Upgrade

    So planning to upgrade my computer (that time of year). These are my current plans.

    Q6600 -> Core i5 2500K. Can't see the price increase for the i7 2600K as justified.
    P5K Deluxe -> Asus P8P67 Pro
    4GB Corsair DDR2 -> 8GB DDR3
    Antec 1200 -> Either, Corsair 650D or 600T. I want a smaller and lighter case but I'm not sure what to go for.
    Not planning to upgrade my ATI 5870.

    AMD Bulldozer is being demoed next month. Hopefully this will mean we can get an indication of its performance.

    I would also get a Z68 motherboard too:

    If you don't go for a z68 board as Cat suggested, Scan have the MSI P67A-GD65 with a free Coolermaster Hyper 212+ CPU Cooler on today only for £117

    Excellent deal

    Ok, the review for that board seem great, I'll switch to that.

    I already have a CPU cooler, a Corsair Hydro H50. But thanks for showing me the deal.

    Can I just say that the corsair 650d and 600t are actually the same weight as the antec 1200, it's shorter than the 1200 but wider and longer so in total volume it's actually bigger.

    I'd have a look at the Lian-li PC-P50 armorsuit http://www.specialtech.co.uk/spshop/...-pid-9577.html
    About the same cost, a bit smaller, but as it's aluminium it's less than half the weight, 6.6 kg
    review here http://www.clunk.org.uk/reviews/lian...is-review.html
    Or the PC-B25F http://www.scan.co.uk/products/lian-...m-case-w-o-psu Same case, different front bezel, air flow slightly restricted because of it, but it does help reduce noise even more.

    Ok thanks, I'll take a look at them. What about say the Coolermaster CM 690 II Advanced? I think I would prefer a Mid Tower case, it isn't the weight I have an issue with but I think the massive size of full tower cases (even though the space is rather nice but feels wasted with my components).

    I have a Corsair HX620W PSU, have there been any big changes in power efficiency that would warrant a new PSU?

    Re: First Major Upgrade

    May i ask what the advantage of getting a z68 board over a Asus P8P67 Pro is?

    Im currently entertaining ideas of upgrading my own rig and I thought the only reason to go for z68 was if you wanted to use the onchip gfx?

    .... and the ability to use an SSD as a cache for a hard drive.

    With the 2500K and 2600K anything with 12 phase+ vrm is pretty decent kit. Am using the P8P67 Pro and it's been the best overclockign motherboard I've ever had. Had my 2600K up to 5Ghz on 1.395v before backing the speed down to 4.7Ghz to get 24/7 folding stability.

    The Eufi instead of a a bios shouldn't be a deal swinger as it's just a graphical front end essentially. No reason to discount any of the P67 chipsets. Find one that has the featureset you want and then we can better advise you on a specific...
