HDD in a Laptop optical drive slot.

Has anyone had any experience with any of these before? Seems an excellent way to have
an SSD and HDD in a smaller laptop, seeing as I rarely use the optical drive on a laptop.

Lots of people seem to replace the ODD with HDD/SSDs on MacBook Pros.

I've used one, you will need to stick it to the laptop with double sided tape or velcro. You will also need to know if you have an IDE or SATA dvd drive and get the appropriate bracket.

Does it not have any screw holes in it for attaching the mounting brackets which are attached to
the original ODD.

As it is for an old IDE laptop i was thinking of trying something like below with it but it seems
a bit big.

No it didn't have any. I used mine with an SSD drive so vibrations were not really an issue.

If you wanted to you could drill a hole into the bottom of the bracket so that you could use the screw holes that are on the bottom of the hard drive.

Just make sure it has the right connector, this one takes SATA hard drives and connects to the PATA port on the laptop.

they sell a 500gb one for my medion, shame you cant buy the caddy only so i can stick an ssd in here.

A friend has done it with his macbook pro, works great. SSD as a boot up / app drive and then 7200rpm drive for data. Cant remember the bracket he used but it did the job nicely.

I have one in my work laptop - Thinkpad T60p - but it was designed for it so it slots nicely in place, stays in place and has an eject tab that when popped out spins the drive down and asks windows to un-mount it. Should be getting a W520 soon - will see if the same caddy fits in that as I also do not need an optical drive in my laptop.
