GFX card to go with q6600

    Hi

I just got a cheap q6600 as a wee upgrade from my e5200 and am wondering what gfx card would get the most out of it without being bottlenecked.

I was looking at a 6950 2gb but think it's kinda pointless to team that up with a q6600, would a 6870 be a better option?

edit: just realised this is in the wrong forum.

    What is your PSU BTW??

Do you intend to overclock the CPU??

PSU is a thermaltake 550w, thinking of upgrading it tbh as it's getting on a bit about 4 years old now.

Yeah plan to OC the q6600 to hopefully atleast 3.0ghz

I assume you have a 64 bit version of Windows??

An HD6950 2GB is a good graphics card for the price and has enchanced tessalation performance over the HD6800 series. BTW,the HD6870 1GB is also good value for money and should be slightly less taxing on your PSU than an HD6950 2GB.

Even,if your CPU is a limiting factor you should be able to turn up settings higher in a game than with an HD6870 1GB and you can carry it over to a newer build too.

However, the HD6950 2GB is a long card so I would check the length of your case.

Your PSU should be able to run an HD6950 2GB in theory but one of these PSUs should be fine:

Re: GFX card to go with q6600

I've got an Antec 900 so it should fit a 6950.

Thinking about it I'm just being indulgent looking to buy a new gfx card now as there is nothing my 5770 and a q6600 will be really strained with, probably best to hold off till the release of BF3 when cards will probably be cheaper.

If you already have an HD5770 1GB I would probably wait a while if no games you play are really taxing it!

Re: GFX card to go with q6600

Yeah, just I came into a bit of cash and it's burning a hole in my otherwise broke pocket.

The only game that struggled was BFBC2 and that was due to the e5200 rather than the gpu. Will have a better idea when I install the q6600.

cheers for the advice, though really I think I just need a slap.
