    PC Upgrade

Ok so I have a few issues that I would like to solve with this upgrade. The main priority is for my PC to run as quietly as possible, followed by better gaming performance. At the moment it is incredibly loud to the point it is almost unusable. It's that bad! I think this is a combination of the inside being a mess so airflow is awful, also loud cpu fan and graphics card fan.

I'm looking to spend about £450 but would be willing to go a bit higher, to be honest I don't know what cost is realistic for what I want to achieve. In terms of usage the main ones are gaming (FPS) and music production (Maschine and Ableton Live). My current set up is below, look forward to hearing your views. Oh I would also like to change the PSU. The current one makes a buzzing noise unless you turn the actual PSU off, which means waiting for the pc to turn off, the cables are also a nightmare so impossible to organise efficiently. Not sure what model it is but its made by Xclio

    Current set up:

    Mobo: ASUS M2N32-SLI DELUXE, AM2+/AM2
    CPU: Athlon 64 X2 4600+
    RAM: Corsair DDR2 301.4Mhz, 2GB
    Graphics: Radeon HD 4870 512MB
    Case: Antec P180

    Thanks for your help!

It seems a beta BIOS will make your motherboard compatible with a Phenom II X4:

AFAIK,music production programmes tend to prefer Intel CPUs ATM.

Are you going to overclock and do you need Crossfire or SLI capability??

    Re: PC Upgrade

to be honest for the music production I'm not too worried, I mentioned that just because I think I could do with a bit more ram.

I would like to have a go at overclocking and am interested in the self-contained watercooling kits that are out now.

With regards to crossfire/sli, I was thinking it would be good to have this in the hope that whatever gfx card I buy now, I could just add another one in a years time to upgrade. Is this a good idea or do you think I'd be better off just buying a new card? I appreciate it may be hard to say! And admittedly this isn't something I've done at all so far despite having the ability to do so.

Also what is the situation with a beta bios in general? its not something I know anything about. To be honest I was expecting to have to upgrade cpu and mobo together but the prices on those phenom x4's look reasonable so that would prob save me ~£100

I should add my budget is fairly flexible and would consider going to £600

    Thanks

    Re: PC Upgrade

what do people think about this beta bios? Also it says its removed lan option rom do i need this??!

i would either go for this beta bios with a phenom 2 x4 or I would go for a new mobo with prob a core i5. would love to hear peoples views between the two!

    Thank you kindly. x
