    Re: Nvidia Ampere livestream event

Ha, it's Samsung 8N process. Bad luck.

Comparing RTX cards with DLSS upscaling to Pascal at native res is poor form, like they don't believe the performance increase like for like is enough.

And they've copied a bunch of MS/AMD features like DirectStorage acceleration.

Even the 3070 looks like it has the new connector (on the founders edition).

Funny they didn't show the terrible graphics artefacts with DLSS in Death Stranding

And the 3080 is the flagship.. the 3090 is just.. big?!

Well - I correctly picked 1,500 for the 3090 but the 3080 is cheaper than I thought. Waiting for the AMD response now
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

I was expecting prices around 700,1,000,& 1,500 so it's less bad than I feared. Maybe I'll upgrade from my £500 980Ti this genertion

    Re: Nvidia Ampere livestream event

Pricing seems to be where expected, maybe slightly higher for the 3090.

Its interesting as whilst these supplant all of the existing Nvidia lineup we're basically 2 months away from getting any games come through that stretch these and also inching towards Navi in that time.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

If that pricing is right then RTX3070 is where I am at, faster than a 2080ti for a lower price? Can't see it myself, I mean the pricing, can see some hefty mark ups

I would wait for reviews first?? Also,if Nvidia is being more aggressive it hints they are concerned. So I would suspect AMD is up to something, and the RDNA2 cards should launch before November(I think an AMD person said before the consoles).

I am not in a rush, my 1080 does ok for Blender but if those prices are correct that could be good news for me, gaming and rendering! Will see what AMD comes up with, though primarily I use cuda so not sure if amd has something equivalent

VRAM is still at 8GB though,so maybe worth seeing if 16GB VRAM models are released IMHO.

What is interesting is Nvidia has only increased transistors by around 50% over the last generation!

The Samsung 8NM node must be worse than TSMC 7NM,even if you take into consideration the TU102 looks to be 20% larger in surface area than the GA102.

    Probably yeah.

That all depends on your resolution. At 1080p, sure...but at 1440, or 3440x1440...current gen cards are stretched, and the next gen likely will be at 4k with newer games. As an example, I cannot consistently get over 100fps in warzone on high settings, and its 80-100 on medium (RTX off..). A flagship card should be pushing 150+ in a year old game imo. (this is with an overclocked 2080).

I think we'll see the same leap within a few months, probably Cyberpunk actually, which will let the 3080 run it at around the same..100fps. Personally, I don't think 60fps is a high enough target anymore. It may be pure marketing jargon, but "Frames wins games" is true for online gaming, and it makes a huge difference if you can maintain a stable high framerate with G-sync or freesync turned off.

    But yes, interesting.

    Re: Nvidia Ampere livestream event

What's interesting is the 3080 FE is cheaper than the 2080 FE was at launch. It's £100 cheaper. For a card that looks to be much faster (going by the video info above).

There's a massive gap between the 3080 and 3090 in terms of pricing though, which makes me wonder how much that stack will get filled out, as well as at which price points.
