Hi,
Im trying to update the bios of my board using the abit flash utility and it does download the new files for the bios but when it tries to run I get "Checksum error" and the whole process fails. Anyone else get this? I have upgraded to 1.3 of the Flash utlity so IM running the current version
also do I have to clear the CMOS when I update the bios every time - is this really necessary?

Try clearing cmos before/after every flash.

Do not use the download the latest bios feature, it will be the cause of you killing your board. If you're going to use the in-windows flash utility make sure you download the new bios first and then update it from file, that's my advice.
I have the IC-7 and used the windows flash tool once or twice & all was fine... no clear cmos needed for me. I think I'm a few bioses behind from the most recent. But everything is working fine, so IF ITS NOT BROKEN, DONT FIX IT = cardinal rule for BIOS's
But I think with the Max (maybe b/c of the onboard IDE/SATA HD controller you have to clear cmos)
I would say flash the bios in DOS, safer :) Also, are you saving the correct clock speed of the CPU? so it is booting as the right thing, or is the error occuring when you are flashing :confused:
I think you may be right Ill leave it as is dont want to ruin my bios however if I ever do Ill do a download and then flash from file as suggested but its all working very well my new build that is so Ill leave well alone for now ;) thnx for replies
Romanov, any chance you can make your sig a bit smaller mate? The image on its own, or the text on its own would be the maximum size you could get away with, but make it smaller if possible.
actually the windows way is safer, if there is a problem your computer is still running with the old bios cached and still working. If there is an error you can reflash, etc. And the program double checks that everything went ok before it tries to reboot.
