How much is this worth?

Hi guys I got an unconditional offer for a teaching course in Scotland today so selling my computer which I only recently upgraded. Im just looking to know what its worth?

The specs are as follows

Asus P8P67M (2 Months Old)
Intel 2500k (2 Months Old)
8GB Kingston HyperX (2 Months Old)
128GB Crucial M4 SSD (2 Months Old)
500GB Samsung F3
Sapphire 5850
Enermax Liberty 620W
Akasa Eclipse-32 Case
Dell 23" U2311H(2 Months Old)

I also have a new sealed pack of 8GB Corsair DDR3 (2 x 4GB Sticks) 1600Mhz Ram

Lol to be honest ill be getting a laptop as ill need it for my teaching practice. So will probably just sell this computer. Just wondering what its worth.

Although I would like to see me with a mini case with them components attached to it with a strap over my neck and the screen on brackets in front of my face with a mobile diesel generator on wheels Would look awesome lol

If you need a work laptop then perhaps the school should offer you one instead of expecting you to buy one.

My advice is to have a mini-ITX computer for use at home and then get something like a cheap Zacate or CULV based laptop for work purposes.

Unfortunately mate as its teacher training (PGCE) they provide you with nowt

I will need to to do a little gaming on, and all my work while back in the diggs.

Its a waste of money in the long run to get a gaming laptop. They are big and a pain to move around and have poor battery life. IMHO,a laptop for work should be smaller and have decent battery life. One of the £300 Zacate or CULV based laptops will have decent battery life and is compact.

I have had SFF PCs for yonks due to space and transport requirements. My Shuttle is small enough to put in a little bag and move around on the train easily. I even have a smaller 4:3 ratio monitor too which is easier to move around too. Something like a 17" or 19" monitor will not take up much space and you could plonk it in on top of the case anyway!

As vicar says if you split you may get a better price overall, but for the whole PC including the monitor I'd be looking for about £750, maybe a little more? Very difficult to sell pre-built systems second-hand: most people looking second-hand are after an absolute bargain, sadly...

Or as CAT says, keep the machine for doing the hard yards and gaming when you're at home / in digs, and get a cheap laptop for working on. Dell Outlet currently have a spate of 11.6" inspirons running the previous-generation AMD low power platform for between £200 and £250 - ideal portable system: more power than Atom, integrated graphics can cope with games at low res / settings. Well worth thinking about, rather than trying to get one compromise machine that would do everything passably but nothing well...

Thanks for the help guys, I dont expect the laptop to play everything, just the odd game so wasnt looking anything high end. I made the mistake of buying a gaming laptop before (think tis still in my sig) and while it was great, there was nothing mobile about it!

I will probably keep the pc though even if its left at home.

Congrats, however, I would have to echo what CAT said, dont drop your main machine for a laptop if you care at all about gaming. I did exactly that when I went to Uni, and in hindsight it was stupid. Down grade in size if needs be and get a cheapo laptop for work. Lugging it to work daily will mean you want it as light as possible, and it will only get beaten up. Also keeping PC and cheap laptop will probably work out saving you money compared with depreciation on your current components 2nd hand and a decent new laptop.

Weight and battery life are the only real considerations for a laptop designed for teaching. I would be using mine from around 7am until end of school day pretty much non-stop and you want it to last for as long as possible without relying on needing to charge the batteries every few hours.

Teacher training will have no time for playing games as well , especially in the second half of the course.
