    Inside a ZooStorm

Just a quick thread, we got a zoostorm pc here at work for evaluation, just as a general desktop.

    Here's the model
    http://www.zoostorm.com/Products/389...os-sff-pc.aspx
First thing I did was take a screwdriver to it (there is no warranty sticker sealing the sidepanel/cover on this model) and here's what they don't tell you, the full component specs

Hard drive is Western digital Blue WD5000AAKX
    Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-H81M-DS2V rev1.0
RAM is a single stick from Crucial CT51264BA160B (yep it's 1600mhz not 1333)
    DVDr/w is a LiteOn model iHAS122-14
PSU is a TFX form factor by PowerMan model number IP-S250FF7-2, 250w, 17.5amp over 2 rails for the 12v, 80+ rated (InWIN unit http://www.in-win.com.tw/Power/en/go...-S-Series%20FF)
Case is the InWIN BL641 http://www.in-win.com.tw/Corporate/e...=view&id=BL641 minus the additional 80mm side fan, the cpu cooler shroud and the tool free drive mounting (there's black plastic covers where the toolless fittings should be)
CPU is an i3-4130 (I'll confirm the full details on Friday) with a stock intel cooler.
there is a basic usb keyboard and mouse, no clue off hand to the OEM of these.

EDIT: I'll get some photo's next friday

Zoostorms always looked very good value for money, always made me wonder where the corners were cut, be nice to see a cost breakdown.

    Opps edit
Well any OS you want to put on it, it is a standard h81 motherboard not some custom job, it comes with the normal gigabyte motherboard manual and driver dvd, again not a custom job.

"coated????" did you mean cost? We got it from misco http://www.misco.co.uk/product/21580...-No-OS-1Yr-RTB £270.68 Inc VAT

Well that's part of why I posted this

    From uk.partpicker.com

    i3-4130 = amazon.co.uk £77.99
    gigabyte GA-H81M-DS2V = amazon.co.uk £40.72
    Crucial CT51264BA160B = amazon.co.uk £29.04
    Western digital Blue WD5000AAKX = aria £34.74
InWIN BL641 = not listed on partpicker but scan does stock it with the 300w psu £54.77
LiteOn iHAS122-14 = again not listed on partpicker but scan has it £11.98

Total = £249.24, chuck on £8 ish for a keyboard and mouse so about £257

quick check amazon don't have it but dabs has the same zoostorm for £264.58 http://www.dabs.com/products/zoostor...stem-96HM.html
So around £10 more than the parts on this unit anyways.

The corners cut is definitely the motherboard, not that it's a bad one but it is the cheapest most basic option, the thing is really dinky, smallest mATX motherboard I've seen before, it's matx in height but mini-itx in width.
One thing to note is that this is their SFF unit, their normal mid towers are cheaper, I don't have one and I've not been able to find out the OEM on the case & psu so I cannot comment that much on it, however I think that's a cheaper option than the inwin on this SFF unit.

    Re: Inside a ZooStorm

I've added a cost breakdown now, it's slightly more than parts, it's their systems with OS that you'll have a harder time to beat, they probably get windows far cheaper than we can.
At work we've got a MS licence agreement so no needs to pay for os a 2nd time.

The interesting thing is that zoostorm sell no OS systems, one of the few that do.

    Re: Inside a ZooStorm

    Photo's

Note only 2 usb2 front ports unlike the standard inWin BL641

Note the lack of side fan and cpu shroud unlike the standard BL641, also the missing tool free clips.
The two yellow leavers are to remove the drive bay section, you have to remove the front bezel first, press the leavers then it just lifts off.
