Any thoughts to what kind of reader I can use and where to get one from?

Easy, your pc is taking in 240volts from your wall socket, unless you're not in the UK or have really really dodgy electrics in your house.
I think you mean Watts not volts.

You can buy them cheap enough, I think I bought mine from Aldi for about £8.
