AMD 754/939 NorthQ vs Gigabyte CPU cooler?

Wanting to cool a San Diego 3700+ (not sure what stepping but around 85 TDP) on an ASRock 939SLI-eSATA2 in a cheap case with no case fans (only supports 1x80 at rear).

Was waiting for Play to get Arctic Cooling Alpine 64 Pro, but might cancel order as been waiting for weeks.

Anyway, Scan's today only page have four coolers under £10 (will need to make order up for free postage though). But the two that interested me are a NorthQ NQ-3330WLA. Because unlike Coolermaster Hyper TX3 and similar coolers, the NorthQ fixing mechanism means fan will blow to back of case instead of blowing to top of case for my socket retention bracket. However I don't like the gaps between heat pipes and base material.

Gigabyte is cheaper still for Gigabyte G-Power BL, although it looks bulkier and heavier than wanted.

Any feedback on either? Or the Alpine 64 Pro as it will work out cheaper overall.

The NorthQ is a direct touch heat pipe type which are generally good.
the gigabyte G-power is an overhead design, that blows down on to the motherboard.

    What case have you got?
A simple cheap case might be a good option
Scan's got the Xclio Godspeed One Advanced on today only supersavers for £21.59 vnot an amazing case but for £21 it's decent and can use 120mm fan on the rear

Re: AMD 754/939 NorthQ vs Gigabyte CPU cooler?

Case is an old generic model recycled. No branding on it at all, and originally housed a Socket A system.

Beyond CPU cooler I don't really want to spend more on system, as it's a near as free upgrade for end user.

Reading a review of the NorthQ with mention of base contact being poor is worrying. Especially as more than the Gigabyte model.

Ummm from that review, not easy via a translate, it's not a highly polished surface, but what do you expect for that money?
Worse to me is they seem to say it's supplied with some cheap silicon paste that would be more of an issue to me.

Or go for the gigabyte, it's not going to be much heavier or how about a acf7p v2 on today only for £12
