What Laptop?

Another one of these questions BUT

Basically I have £500 or so to spend on a laptop, whats the best one to get?

Ideally I want good battery life and dedicated graphics able to play games. Im not expecting crysis up full but would like it to be capable enough if possible.

Im asking on here because I havent researched laptops in a long time so dont really know whats going on in the market lately.

It depends on whether on the version of the GT540M:

If it is the DDR3 version it will be slower than a GT430:

This is what I hated about laptops, nothing straight forward and a myriad of ways to waste your money on inferior components!

The GT540M is one of the better cards available in your price range.

The main issue is that many companies are intentionally vague on whether the card has DDR3 or GDDR5 which can make a big difference.

Sadly there seems to be a lack of Llano based laptops at retail; one of them would've been ideal for your requirements. For your purposes CPU shouldn't actually make that much difference, so really you're looking at sorting something graphically. Intel's HD3000 graphics - which feature on most of its mobile sandy bridge chips, AFAICT - is pretty much the best performance you can get short of a discrete card (until Llano laptops are released, anyway). Otherwise, hunt the bargain basements. Like I say*, you can get some pretty damn fine laptops from Dell outlet dead cheap, and my experience of Dells has always been pretty positive.

I like the look of the Acer one mentioned above - i just dont know what version of the 540m it is.

Does it look ok to you or do you know of any other ones? I seem to have missed all the bargains

Its nice mate, only probl is its a bit big, having previously had a 17inch screen I found it a bit too big :/
