    Multi-function Printer with wireless Scanning

    Hi Guys,

I'm in the market for a new multi-function printer with all the mod cos including wireless networking. One thing in particular I would like is the ability to scan documents and wirelessly send it to a particular machine on my network.

I have had a look online but I can never find a description that explicitly states whether it has this functionality.

Obviously price/quality of print etc is a factor too but this feature seems particularly hard to single out.

I would appreciate any reccomendations - thanks.

My Brother MFC does this (although it is hard wired as opposed to wireless, newer models may be wireless). You can control it from any PC with the software installed, or if the PC is on, you can send it directly there from the controls on the front of the printer itself.

Works well, but did freak my wife out the first time I sent a document to her laptop without explaining what would happen first (the Brother control software pops up then an Explorer window with the file)

I think most HP's do this. My old HP C8180 lets you choose what file type you want to scan to and what PC to send it too. You just have to install the HP software on all your PC's.

Pretty sure the newer HP's do it too.

Re: Multi-function Printer with wireless Scanning

To add to my earlier post, most HP printers also have a built in web server where you can scan from, from any computer too.

really? I have a hp 2570 connected over ethernet atm. Currently all the networked computers just have the basic drivers (to save bloat) for printing.

I'll try out the current hp suite and see if that has any feature to it - tho i still hate the idea of using their bloated software just to scan.

Re: Multi-function Printer with wireless Scanning

You should be able to use scan to computer once you've installed the touchsmart software.

Agree it is overly bloated and takes and age to install!

Re: Multi-function Printer with wireless Scanning

    Again, agreed.

My HP is allegedly capable of it, but heck knows which drivers and bloat I have to install to actually make it work.

Re: Multi-function Printer with wireless Scanning

Ok on my current printer I found a non-bloat way which sorta works.

You open up your browser and enter the network IP of your printer - there is a page on there which allows for remote scanning. You can initiate scan and it delievers the scan in the form of a PDF to save.

I would still prefer the more office like method of managing scan/sending of image to machine from the printer itself but this is a good work around for now.
