What will happen to support for HP monitors, scanners, printers and home servers??
If people have recently purchased any HP hardware I think they should pester the reseller or HP directly as soon as possible.
It seems that their commerical servers will be still made but they have kept very quiet about the fate of their other hardware businesses.
Things like their higher end photo printers are most likely to be affected,ie,availability of parts and consumables.

toshiba stopped selling projectors, we replaced the dead ones with epson units.
a business that size can afford to do things like that.

They pretty much were terrible about supporting things already. So I don't see there would be any major changes :D
Jokes aside, they will sell their pc business as a going concern anything else would be financial suicide. That means drivers/parts etc would continue to be available.

I am not talking about the effect on businesses but on consumers. For example they have not made it clear what is happening to the other parts of their consumer hardware business.

That is true. I had a £300 HP 8450 printer which they stopped supporting after only three to four years. When it stopped working they were useless. The similarly priced Epson R800 is still being made and still being supported!!

Looks like I will be moving to epsom when my current HP printer dies. Shame as I have always used HP printers even though there inks is the most expensive on the earth.

Nice place, good race track - and the salts are good for you.

Surely HP won't abandon their printers too? Thought that was always one of their specialities?
HP do have hopeless support though, had a monitor off them that broke about 3 months outside its warranty, called them and they didn't even have a support centre for monitors, all the support they could give me was you have to buy a new one. Couldn't even pay to get the monitor repaired, £350 down the drain!

I bought one of their monitors which had an HDMI connector on it - the first generations suffered from crackling audio - HP's solution was 'don't use HDMI.' I've not bought from them since.

I got the impression they made a fortune from selling ink, costs more per litre than vintage champagne etc :)
Was worried at first that I bought their AMD E350 based 11.6" laptop just a few months ago, but then the alternative was a Lenovo model because IBM sold their PC biz ages ago. Guess you can't win.

HP are idiotic for releasing this statement without actually finding a buyer yet for their PC business.
Anybody who knows about this will probably think twice before buying an HP laptop or desktop now.

Re: What will happen to support for HP monitors, scanners, printers and home servers??
Absolutely. Our corp had just started a 3-way evaluation of Dell, HP and Lenovo PCs/Laptops to see if we should stick with a long-standing Dell relationship, or switch to one of the other 'main' vendors. Our 3-way eval just became a 2-way eval. No way we can proceed with migrating to HP hardware on faith alone that the new owner will maintain product quality, support, lifetime cycles etc.

Re: What will happen to support for HP monitors, scanners, printers and home servers??
I am annoyed by this move by HP. it does seem rather sudden.
the only HP equipment I own is a HP printer.
im not sure which printer manufacturer I will go for next. I have had two Epson printers and both ahd the same issue. you had to clean the printer heads around 10 or more times every time you replaced the cartridge just to printer properly. I have a few customers with kodak printers and they do seem good. I would think dell would be happy with the move that HP and IBM have made. dell should gain alot of custom from this i would think.

Of course they've a buyer lined up - hence them doing it this way.
They've got to disclose their plans since they are a listed company

They will do what IBM did and sell it all off to another company like they did with Lenovo.
