out of sata ports, what card to get?

Right im out of sata ports on my motherboard and didnt remember this till i went to install my crucial ssd lol! Can someone recommend a fairly cheap expansion card? with sata 6gb/s, iirc its the card that is required to support ahci and ncq right? Need that aswell ,

I think i have the following connections on my mobo free:

    1x pci 2.2 slot
    1x pcie 2.0 x16 slot
    1.pcie x1 slot

Not sure what im really looking for in a "good" card so suggestions appreciated, ideally <£20 but if thats not achievable then i will up the budget.

Re: out of sata ports, what card to get?

nope dont need raid, just simply need to add an extra drive... i could just buy the cheapest possible and hook my bluray drive to the cheap addon card and thenuse the sata 2 ports on my motherboard however i would like to use the sata 3 so the c300 can be used at its fullist.

Depending on price ofc, im upgrading in a month or two though, going bulldozer or intel and so i will have sata 6 then...

edit: Ignore most of the above, i would prefer to get one which is sata 3 and has 2 ports, my motherboard doesnt support ahci but supports ncq (or so asus says....) id assume my corsair f60 would see a considerable boost in performance from this as well as its limited by the pitiful motherboard. All i need is 2 sata 3 slots with ahci and ncq support, im hoping this isnt to much to ask from the market .

Re: out of sata ports, what card to get?

Ebuyer have a couple of suitable cards:

    Xenta 2 SATA 6Gbps + IDE: £17

    StarTech 2 SATA 6Gbps: £32

Both seem to use a Marvell controller, so I can't imagine there's much to choose between them. The only thing to se aware of is that a PCIe x1 lane - even 2.0 - might not provide the full 6Gbps throughput (wiki reckons a single PCIe 2.0 lane only has 4Gbps bandwidth). So without going to expensive x4 / x8 / x16 PCIe cards, you may find yourself bottlenecking a SATA 3 SSD anyway.

Scan have a 2 port card for ~ £18, again it's an x1 card so the bus bandwidth may become the limiting factor. I've not been able to find any x4 cards on a quick browse, although I'm sure they exist: but more probably as expensive high-end RAID cards, tbh...

EDIT: can't see anything that explicitly states those cards support AHCI, but I find it hard to believe they don't, given that even the most basic motherboards support AHCI nowadays...?
